This is a sure case of a timer mechanism fault. The timer motor is malfunctioning. This is easily fixed by, replacing the timer control module

What is a normal wash and dry cycle for a dishwasher?

Assuming this is a residential dishwasher, the least cycle time is 18-19 minutes for light load . Average is 30-50 minutes. some have long times and super extra cyccles that will go to 70-85 minutes. Note that the drying cycle will will be the same regardless of what the wash/rinse times will be; also, the dry cyccle will be the same regardless if you use the heat switch or not. Washing cycle wont complete

I had the same problem. Called the repair man, who said it was a defective control board. He ordered a new one, replaced it and now the problem is fixed.

Cycle continues to 27 min then....

i suggest you check the heating element for open circuit and or check the thermostat for open circuit(timer wont proceed if heat is not available). if both ok, your electronic control or timer is faulty. replace.
