Question about Coldtech J4SRR-40B Commercial Refrigerator

Open Question

Good afternoon everyone, i have a coldtech fridge/freezer they run seperate compressors, my problem is with the 1/5 compressor on the fridge side. The problem is when the LCD display reaches 42 degrees the compressor fan turns on, but then i hear a click (like a relay clicking in, then out) then upon the 3 rd click the compressor starts.. for starters the coils are clean. ambient temp is 85. the unit has a dedicated 20 amp circuit, with a meter i 114.8 volts, so my question is am i drawing to much? relay failing, or compressor? and ideas .. thanks in andvance

SOURCE: Fridge temp is high, there'a a clicking

If the sound you are hearing is a noise like the old clickers we used to hold in our hands, it is probably the overload. If so, doubt you might get it fixed by Friday. The sound is probably the Klixon overload and it "clicks" to open the circuit because too much current is being drawn. Reasons for this:
1) Compressor is locked and is pulling LRA locked rotor current.
2) Starting mechanism is not operating correctly. (better this than locked pump)
Starting relay is probably solid state and changing this may fix the problem. But, further testing is going to be necessary.
Sorry, but it is not going to be something you can easily do.
If the clicking is something different, like the defrost timer. Easy fix.
However, I am afraid you have something more serious. Warranty should handle any of this. Compressor should have a 5 yr. warranty. But that does not help getting it going right away.

Why would a brand new fridge make strange noises already?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FFSS2614QS, is making a strange humming noise. Your new, high-efficiency refrigerator may introduce unfamiliar sounds. These sounds normally indicate your refrigerator is operating correctly. Some surfaces on floors, walls, and kitchen cabinets may make these sounds more noticeable. This could possibly be the compressor that you are hearing. Modern, high-efficiency compressors run much faster than in the past. The compressor may have a high-pitched hum or pulsating sound. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

How long can you expect a fridge to last these days??

Hi Joanne
Wow, Is that an open question.....
How long is a piece of string...
I get what you mean though...
Only your Engel Service Dept knows for sure.
They see the returns.
Does it have a compressor or is it based on Heating Elements like an RV Fridge.
If you can hear the compressor running inside, you will know. Compressors don't like being tipped on their side.
I have 1 fridge & 1 Freezer in the back storage room that have been running for thirty years. But I don't think they make em like that any more.
Look after it. Keep the vents clear & hope for the best.
Cheers

Coldtech 65slc-lh-may compressor cycling on overload. does it have internal overload?

Typically, I know all AMERICAN MADE fractional horsepower compressors do not have internal overloads.
I just was not sure if this MADE IN CHINA compressor might have a different internal winding design that included an embedded winding overload. Upon further testing, though, it seems that the start components and overload are external.
Thank you,
Jerry Bullock

Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.

could be due to ice build up jamming the fan. take back panel off and check for ice. if ice present the defrost system has failed. also on some models, the fan stops when door is opened. check door switch is operating
