The tension is wrong

I have been trying to mess with the tension on my machine and no matter what way I turn the dial it doesn't change it. What is wrong?

Ok,...to see if the tension is functioning properly, thread the machine and be sure the presser foot in in the up/raised position. When the foot is up the thread should pull easily thru the eye of the needle, lower the foot and the thread should become harder to pull thru the needle (set the tensiondial on 4 or 5). If it as I described, the tenson is working.

The tension dials on my Bernina 2000DCE overlocker is not working, no matter where I turn the dials, the tension remains the same, a mess! Any suggestions?

Possible problems are lint between the tension discs. You can clean this with a business card. If the tension discs are not meeting together you must take the machine apart to adjust the spring tension. If all the tension discs not closing. If that is the case your presser foot tension release lever may be stuck.

New Home ss2015 machine. I am having trouble with the thread tension. I have loops on the bottom. I have cleaned the bobbin case, changed the needle, re-threaded and moved the upper tension all the way up....

try adjusting the top tension to 3 & if it doesn't stop the looping, try 4 but I wouldn't go any higher than 5,, if changing the top tension doesn't help then I suggest taking the machine in to have it serviced. the bottom tension is more difficult to do,, it's also very possible that the top tension dial is messed up & needs replacing. only a sewing machine shop can tell for sure.

Most likely caused by issues with your top tension if it is showing on the underside of the fabric, top thread is not being tensioned fully or at all. Check the tension dial is set to five and that the top thread is between the tension discs and under tension.

Best way is to lower the pressure foot as this engages the top tension. Then pull the thread from below the tension device, down near the needle bar, it should feel firm to you.

If not, then check top threading again, rethread and pull thread into the tension device, and test again. If there is some tension there, then you could try turning the top tension dial up to a higher number a little to see if this helps with the stitching.

Failing that, take it for a service, tension device is probably faulty.

The top tension dial is usually standard set on #3. The rest have nothing to do with tensions but make sure that your foot that you put the fabric under is up before you start threading the top

You need to do a tension assembly test. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} Tension assembly test. To do this test. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.)
If it doesn’t work this way then you probably have a piece of thread or lint stuck inside the tension discs. To remove it, turn the tension to 0 zero and raise the presser foot.Using a small screwdriver, open the space between the discs and spray with canned or compressed air. The stuff should come out. Do the tension test again to make sure you got everything and then try sewing again.

If it still messes up ,remove the bobbin case and examine it for burrs or scratches. Remove them with and emery stick and fine steel wool.
