I bought this unit last year and only used it about a dozen times- I turned it on this year and the blower is making a strange noise - almost like a deisel engine- its herd louder than the compressor in parts of the house - does any one know why this may be happenig? I know the unit itself is fairly loud ( any thing but the whisper quiet operation they claim) but this noise is really loud now and its directly coming from the blower/or motor wether or not the compressor is on or off.
Please help!!

Have someone check the run capacitor of this unit. If the run capacitor is bad over shorted it can cause the unit to run and short cycle on a current overdraw. This makes for an electrical imbalance in the compressor motor. Next step is the compressor is faulty.

Either compressor is going bad or the fan is rubbing. There is a condensor fan that comes on only when the compressor starts. So check the fan out first to make sure that it is not rubbing or moving around. If that is not then check the compressor by letting it run for about 5 minutes then touch the top of the compressor. BE careful as it can be extremly hot that will show you one of two things either bad compressor or condensor is dirty and a garden hose with a jet blast of water will solve the problem. If that doesnt work either compressor is bad and will either need to be replaced for about 250 dollars or unit will need to be replaced

If you can make repairs yourself a motor is only about $40 and a capacitor about $10. Either could be the problem. If you have to pay someone to do it buy a new one.
