Fuel, fire, mechanical. Miss one and she won;t run. Are you sure the gas was good? Not some old can laying around that may have turned or become water contaminated? If it was fresh gas, then take off the air cleaner and spray a little wd-40, or ether, or brake cleaner whatever is flammable into the carb throat. Just a 1 second shot is all it should need. Try and start with that. If it starts and then dies quickly, still a fuel problem. maybe a gasket is damaged, or the jet is clogged. When you said you checked for fire, you acutally took the plug out and had it grounded while spinning the motor and saw spark? If you saw a hot spark then you have eliminated fire. Mechanical not likely if it was running well a short time before. If a valve was damaged, it would still run but not too well. My gut feeling is it is related to fuel.

Did you have a spark? And was there fuel in the bowl when you "drained" it? Did it start with the shot of ether or other spray? I'm still thinking it is related to the carb. When you tore it apart, did you clean out the jets, all the gaskets in good shape etc? Let me know and hopefully we can get this running for you.

Briggs and Stratton is a questionable generator brand. For some reason, many people believe their generators are imported lower quality Chinese brand.

I linked a page the provides reviews and a little history about the Briggs and Stratton brand.

Same generator same problem there is a small black wire that is connected to the on/off switch to the coil, mine rubbed through from vibration and tuching the flywheel , i replaced it and it runs like new, check for spark first, if you have spark replace your spark plug ,check comperssion , mabye your valve is stuck on, a seal once told me be persistant , you will prevail,

What engine oil is used for a model 01919, 5550 watt Troy-bilt genertor?

The generator engine is shipped from the factory filled with
oil (API SJ or higher 10W-30). This allows for generator
operation in the widest range of temperature and climate
conditions. Before starting the engine, check oil level and
ensure that engine is serviced as described in Maintenance.

If a branch was already being chipped when it ran out of gas...you must clear the hopper of any chunks of wood in it. Pull the plug wire and use a metal pry bar to dislodge any pieces of wood. when the flywheel runs free, put the plug wire back on and the choke on. Try it now!!!

My troy-Bilt 5550 watt generator will not start

First drain the fuel bowl. Any old fuel in there will keep it from starting. Fuel stabilizer is not what it's it cracked up to be. I've worked for 6yrs at a rental yard and had no luck with any fuel stabilizer, the fuel still went bad. If after you drain the fuel bowl it still will not start, you will need to clean the carb. Remove the carb and spray carb cleaner through all the accessible passages. If this does not do it, you will need to replace the carb. For long term storage I highly recommend draining all the fuel and filling just the carb with fuel stabilizer to keep gaskets moist. Then drain the carb when you take it out of storage.
