It sounds like a convergence problem, see attached photos.

It can be a do it yourself repair if you have some skills--it involves getting at and replacing the two STK-392-150 CONVERGENCE chips this set uses for this function.

Total parts cost for a do it yourself repair should be under 30 dollars and I can tell you what you will need and where to get the parts at the best price.

If not a do it yourself person shop around your area for someone who has done this repair before and do not accept "It has to go to the shop" as I have done hundreds of these in the customer's home and the repair takes about a hour or less to do.

Let me know if you have questions or need advice--I am here to help.

Images have some ghosting, but convergence lines seem to be OK. For example, white images have a yellow shadow to the right of image. Any suggestion?

Some easy steps to determine where and what your problem is:

1) In customer menu select convergence and then advanced (done with the Mitsubishi remote) look to see if grid of lines straight and if "yellow" is seen there.

2) Look to see if it happens when DVD etc played; If only on component from a cable or sat box but not on tuner or DVD inputs it is not the set.

3) Go to a channel that is in black and white and in customer menu turn COLOR all the way down: is problem still there or not?

If problem is not convergence and is present on all inputs it will be a problem with one of the three CRT boards; they plug onto bottom of each of the the three picture tubes this set uses; yellow suggests a problem with the blue one______loss of blue may give you a yellow smear around things/ red and green equal yellow.

You do not need to take the set apart for this.

Let me know what you find, the more you rule out the easier it is to know where the problem is.

White areas in the image are yellow and the black are blue-green

you have a few issues. first is the yellow in white. the light filter on the blue lcd panel is fried due to excessive dust and heat. unfortunately, you may have to replace the whole optical engine. as for the flashing horizontal lines, the power supply isn't cooling down and the caps are drying out, causing fluctuations in voltage. so, replace the power supply.

LCD projector 101, your blue device is dying inside of projector. Consider purchasing a dlp based product, they do not suffer from color decay.

Really you are blessed , most lcds last about 3-4000 hours or 4 lamp changes. good luck

Color is mostly yellow and blue with double images

you have lost the convergence IC`s in your set, this really isn`t a diy repair unless you are very proficient in un-soldering and re-soldering components, once replaced there will be an alignment procedure as well that will require the service manual also, if you have more questions feel free to ask away, video-tek

Take a look at this image:

0d5b58e.jpg Notice that the Line 1 will typically present on pins 3&4 and Line 2 on 2&5. I would think in your case Black/Blue is Line 1 (3&4) and Yellow/Black is Line 2 (2&5).

If you have a 1 line phone and only have 1 line active, then typically blue and blue/white can be connected to the Blue and Black of your Jack. If this doesn't work, switch with the Yellow and Black.

Please let me know if you have further questions. Good Luck!

Convergence Problem

sounds like 1 of the convergence chips are gone theres 2 of them and better off replacing both as the other would just go a month down the line there might also be a resister or 2 gone, the price for that kind of job is around 150 +vat.

hope this helps
