There is a little (usually black) strip that holds the ribbon cable in the connector. This strip is hinged and needs to be "folded" open (like a book) from the front of the connector (where the ribbon is inserted) towards the back. Then the ribbon will be free. When re-assembling, you need to fold this strip back. Make sure you insert the ribbon all the way (make note of the depth before you start).
You must have something thin enough to get under the strip to fold it open. BE CAREFUL or it will break.

Taking cover off nintendo ds lite

Are you talking about the back cover or front cover?
Either way, before starting you are going to need two things: A tri-wing screwdriver and a Philips screwdriver.

To remove the BOTTOM COVER, you must take off the stickers covering the screws and remove the screws. 001e10e1-317e-4bb5-97cd-230a82f77aaf.jpg
Then, carefully pry the back off, revealing the motherboard inside.

To remove the TOP COVER, you must take off the stickers covering the four screws in the corners of the INSIDE top screen. Unscrew them and gently push the inside top screen down until its about half a centimeter apart from it's backside. Then pull the backside off and you have it open.

If you wanted to open the DS completely, like have it in half, you should first open the BOTTOM COVER and remove the motherboard after disconnecting it from everything attached to it. Then follow the steps given for removing the TOP COVER and slide the ribbon and cables sticking through from the TOP to the BOTTOM back to the TOP so that they are not sticking through and won't be damaged when you take the DS apart. Then unscrew the power light and voila! The DS should be separated.

My nintendo doesnt work right

Sounds to me like the ribbon cable that connects your top screen to the motherboard is loose.
Open it up with a screwdriver and reattach the cable. Be sure and remove your battery first!

My ds lite images on the top screen flickering.

Open up the DS and then unseat and reseat the ribbon cable that goes to the screen.

Once you do that, turn on the DS and if the screen is still flickering then the screen will need to be replaced.

Here is a tutorial on how to open up the DS and what the ribbon cable looks like:

Touch screen wont respond

double check that both cable/ribbons are connected properly to the motherboard, the small thin ribbon which curls over the top of the motherboard is the one which powers and reads the touch screen so double check this!!
if this is all in fine then im sorry to say your touch screen is broken and will need replacing!

Reseating Touch Screen Ribbon Cables

The cable for the touchscreen is one with 4 conductors that connect directly to the overlay on the face of the LCD. The flat ribbon connector on the main board is quite delicate. The three connectors for the bottom screen are on the right side of the component side of the DS phat board. The touchscreen is labeled P6. On the DS Lite, the connector is closer to the R button.

Good Luck

Nintendo ds to screen broken

Hi, replacing the original nds upper screen is a fairly straight forward procedure, you need to remove the 4 x small plastic plugs located in the corners of upper screen, then remove the 4 x phillips screws, the top outer back part of the case will seperate and you can gain access to the screen. Firstly remove the small screw holding down the right hand pcboard to gain access to the ribbon connectors, release the larger flat connector by hinging the clip up, slide the ribbon out, underneath you will see a tiny connector, gently ease the small clip back towards the ribbon, prising a little each side at a time, remove the ribbon and then you can prise the screen from the case.

Replacement of all covers.

to remove the top screen the back cover actually slides off after removing all the screws from the front, once thats off you can see the ribbon cable coming through the hinge, what you need to do is coil the ribbon cable up into a tight little roll and push it through the hinge it's easier if you pull the two little cables out first. hope this helps
