Clean and tighten all electrical connections especialy the ones on the starter solenoid. Push on or other insulated connectors can be put into vinegar or CLR to remove corrosion you can't get to with a brush but rinse them well in de-mineralized water and after they dry use bulb grease or other lubricant for electrical connections.

New battery ran for a little then stopped. Has gas 16.5hp garden way rider What could be wrong?

there are 3 safety switches,clutch/brake ,deck, and seat, one of them is bad,if it turns over then the deck is bad,if it doesnt,it is the seat or clutch, pull the black ground wire off of the coil and try to start,if that works, fix your switches or use without safety switches

Gas pedal not working

Have you engaged the by pass valve ( push mode ) on the tractor? there should be a lever either under the seat or in the rear panel to engage and dissengage the drive.

I have inherited a ride-on tractor, Husqvarna LT19538, without an operators manual. Can you please tell me how to start it?

Make sure you have gas, oil, and a fully charged battery.

Sitting on seat, push the clutch/brake pedal down fully, make sure the mower PTO is in the "off position". Push throttle control to choke, or pull the choke handle, whichever set up you have, and then turn the key.

How do you start it at the engine?

Please explain what your problem is also... here is how to jumpstart your mower.

  • To get the tractor ready for jumping off the battery, push the clutch foot pedal all the way down and hold it while you lift up on the parking brake lever and then release the clutch foot pedal. This will hold the clutch pedal in the down position.
  • Lift the seat forward to access the battery.
  • Take one Red end of the jumper cable and attach it to the red battery terminal on the known good vehicle battery making sure the other end is not touching any metal surface or the tractor. Put the tractor end of the Red jumper cable to the Red or + terminal on the tractor battery. Next put the Black cable on the Black or - terminal on the supply battery and take the other Black end of the jumper cable and clamp it onto the tractor draw bar at the back of the tractor and make sure is making good connection.
  • With the blade engagement lever in the off position you should at this time be able to turn the key and start the engine on the tractor. As soon as the tractor starts remove the cables in the reverse order. Black from the draw,Black from the power source, Red from the tractor battery and Red from the power source battery.

I have a 917.289700 craftsman tractor - 24 hp 42 in deck -- I was mowing and it shut down and won't even try to turn over I checked the oil and gas and put more gas in and added a bit of oil - still...

It sounds like a micro switch, make sure the block connecter under the seat is fully pushed home onto the micro switch, there are other switches on the machine, one under the brake/clutch pedal, one somewhere on the blade engagement, so make sure it is out of gear, the blades are not engaged and you are fully seated in the seat.

Heavy gas smell but no apparent leeks, when starting the bike does not turn over the first time and the clock zero's out then starts on the second push of the button.

Fuel tank on your bike is vented to the atmosphere, and especially when the tank is full it is commom to smell gas.

If the clock zeroes on starting, your battery is weak. Check the battery terminal connections by removing the rider seat and looking in at the battery. Try to wiggle the wires connected to the battery and make sure the connections are tight.

Next, put a small charger on the battery and let it charge up for several hours.

If clock still resets on starting, you will need to replace the battery on your bike.

Good Luck

Yes there is a safety switch. And this safety switch has to be engaged. If its not engaged then the JD tractor will not start. On JD 855 the safty switch is located under the seat, There is a rod that must be depressed before engage Somehow that rod is bent or its not pressing the switch to the point that the seat would not fully engage the safty switch. In some cases the switch itself is faulty. It has to be checked . Thanks. keep updated for any more can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Riding mower stalled out while riding will not start

It sounds like either the seat switch went bad or one of the other safty switches failed easiest way to test this is to dis-connect all wires to the motor, run a jumper form the positive post of the battery to the switch side of the stater solonoid to see if the motor turns over with everything else dis-connected if it starts start connecting wires one at a time until you get to the one tat causes the motor to quit then you have the problem circuit. It sounds to me like you either have a bad safty switch, bad key switch, bad Ground, or a faulty starter solonoid or maybe even a defective battery. Hope this helps Don
