This laptop DOES have a built in mic. You can access the sound settings for the laptop in the Control Panel to be sure that the laptop is using the mic as the input device. Chances are the microphone is already setup as the default.
The following webpage explains how to get to the controls and make changes if you need to.
On this page: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=3310302&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3310301&taskId=135 select your operating system and you ar redirected to download page.

have you checked that the usb mic is installed correctly? simple way to try is to open the settings in control panel for your sound device and seeing if you can choose the usb mic, the usb mic must be plugged in first. If you can, then there is a problem with the settings in fl studio, if you cant select the usb mic then click start > right click on computer and click manage. Click on device manager in the top left then double click on sound video controllers and see if your mic is listed in there if it isnt check the usb controllers and see if there is any unknown devices. right click and click uninstall if there are, also check if it is listed that it has no exclamation marks on it. Again if there is try right clicking and uninstalling it, if you still have the drivers for the mic available on disc, i would try ticking the delete driver files as well when you uninstall it, unplug the mic then restart the computer and when windows has loaded ,reinsert the microphone and see if you can now use it.

It may not be a microphone issue, but a messenger version used by either you or your contact.
I got the same problem before.
One of my contacts couldn't hear me while using messenger, but I could talk to "others" on my same messenger.
Once that contact upgrade its messenger the problem was solved..!

try to double check the sound settings for your sound card because i know that there is a specific setting that you can change in order for you to know that the option will choose either to play by headset or speaker, hope this helps.
