That's a chance you take whenever you flash an eprom. "chip". The only thing that you can do is send it out to one of the numerous companys on the net that fix that sort of problem. Or buy a replacement eprom chip. There is no other solution the chip is now corrupted. You can try to roll back the rom if the machine wouuld boodt but otherwise yu are out of luck, sorry,

Enter BOS setup
F1 or F10 Enter Setup at the red Compaq logo or blue HP logo
Boot menu Below is a summary of what is contained on the Boot tab of the BIOS Setup:
  • The order for the bottom process; for example: Removable devices, CD ROM, and hard drive.
  • Boot-time Diagnostic screen

strongly urge to update bios too when possible.

Hp compaq pentium 4 not booting, light blinks red 8 times

No solution, but I can give an idea of what's wrong.
In the quickspecs for this computer
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#spectype=worldwide&type=html&docid=13029
nder the expended Technical Specifications section, in the 'Serviceability Features of the system' section, under 'Diagnostic LED Explanation Table', it says 8 blinks of the red LED, repeated every 2 seconds, mean "invalid ROM, bootblock recover mode"

It seems that your BIOS ROM become corrupted. The solution to this problem depends on which BIOS you have. Search "invalid ROM, bootblock recover mode" for possible solutions. Restting the CMOS by shorting the two pins on the m/b might just work, but I doubt it in this case. You may have to get the contents of the ROM from HP and re-flash your ROM. Good luck.

SHUTDOWN ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I'M CHEKING MY EMAIL, I TURN IT ON, STAYS ON, CAN'T BOOT, INSERTED OS TO FIX IT BUT JUST SPIN AND STOP, POWER STAYS ON AND FANS ARE NOT MOVING, BLINKING LIGHT IN MOTHERBOARD,...

what hardware have you replaced? do you hear a beeping sound? try removing everything (HDD, DVD/CD/FLOPPY/)except the proc, video card and mem on the motherboard and try to boot. check if it will give you bios. if it still the same, do an isolation test. the main reason why its not responding is your computer doesnt complete POST. POST is one of the process the computer do to test all the hardware that is connected on the motherboard, if one fails and POST doesnt complete, you wont see the BIOS startup screen. Theres a lot of possible fault on this concern. since theres a lot of things connected on the motherboard

When pluged into outlet fans spins and doesnt stop, wont boot

Fan spinning hard is usually a CPU issue.
If you've made any hardware changes to your computer, undo them. This happened to me when I was trying to upgrade my Processor (CPU) and I had the wrong kind.

I had tried to flash my Gb-k8vt800m board using @Bios and got a bootblock lock up. I had saved the original bios to a file on my desktop prior. I now have that hard drive as a slave in second identical...

99.9% of all computers will never need the bios flashed.
This is printed on the bottom of the gigabyte web site.

Warning:
Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction.
The problem with your computer has nothing to do with the hard drive. You need to repair the bios. There is a way to flash the bios without booting into Windows. I'm pretty sure that a floppy drive is involved. You're going to have to figure out how to flash it back to your original bios that you have saved on your hard drive without booting into windows. There is some info on gigabyte web site about flashing bios. My internet connection is bad today and I can't download very well from that site or I'd give you an address. www.gigabyte.com.tw

Also remember that when you flash the bios all the settings in your bios reset. You should enter setup and click on the "load optimal defaults" Then you need to make sure date and time are right. Need to set boot options. Check that the clock ratio is right for CPU. There are a lot of options in there that can be keeping your system from booting it isn't necessarily a failed bios flash other than not getting the settings right after flashing.

Award BootBlock V1.0

Hi.

The BIOS (Basic Input output System) on your motherboard has become corrupted and the computer can't boot normally. The Bootblock is a "failsafe" device that allows the computer to boot far enough to use the floppy disk drive, even though the rest of the BIOS code is scrambled.

How do you think this happened? The most common cause is people trying to "update" the BIOS and messing up the flashing process. Sometimes some particularly nasty viruses can wreck the BIOS code as well.

Now this might be fixable. You will need to download a known good BIOS from Iwill's website and the Award BIOS flashing utility. Then you will need a bootable floppy disk (DOS) to start the computer. You will have to copy the BIOS .BIN file over to the floppy beforehand and the flashing utility. There will be information on the Iwill website on how to flash the BIOS.

Here is a full detailed webpage on how to go about all this:

http://pages.sbcglobal.net/jefn/bootblock.html

I just did a quick Google search using the motherboard details you provided and came up blank ....

If you can't get the BIOS flashed and usable again then I'm afraid it's time for a new motherboard/computer.

Bootblock

Hi,

This messages indicates that the BIOS could not be located and loaded up. Normally this happens when the BIOS is corrupted. The corrective action required is to re-flash the BIOS using a DOS bootable diskette in the 1.44 FDD. Aside from the BIOS file, a flashing software is also needed. Pls start here.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
