There are several possibilities.

If you're using the flash, the flash isn't going to charge that fast.

If your shutter speed is slower than a third of a second, you're obviously not going to get three frames per second.

If the camera is set on AF-C and the subject is moving, the camera may be having trouble tracking it.

If you're shooting RAW and have a slow memory card, the buffer will fill up quickly and slow you down. Try it with JPEG and see if it makes any difference.

If you have the exposure delay mode (custom setting #31) turn on, the camera will wait about 0.4 seconds before shooting, and this applies even in continuous mode.

Check all of the above. Set the camera to Manual exposure mode. Turn off the autofocus. Set the image quality to JPEG Basic. Set the camera to Continuous 3 fps. Now, press and hold down the shutter release button for five seconds. Does the camera take about fifteen pictures?

If you've checked all of these and it still won't do it, post an additional comment here and we can go from there.

What are combining continuous photography camera buttons nikon d7000

Hello - The continuous button is for action shots and the camera will fall back into "lower definition' mode and take 3 5 or 7 photo's per second.
For example -- Tennis player hitting the ball , press continuous and you will have several pictures of them hitting the ball - and ONE of them will be the best shot.
It's not video as that is a continuous stream of 32 frames per second, but it's several JPEG per second. -- Ray

You can do this in continues mode go here

You set this at:

Set the release mode to one of the two remote modes. Quick-response takes a shot immediately, Delayed-remote waits two seconds, giving you an opportunity to hide the remote control behind your back.

HOW TO SET UP THE D80 FOR HDR

Page 140 of your manual "Bracketing Programs" . This camera seems only to be able to do a 3 frame bracket. Normal , Over , and Under exposure. Set the auto bracket to (3) frames, set a 2.0 bracketing increment the order is not really that important. Normal however should be your first frame shot. Make sure that only the speed changes in the different exposures not the aperture this would lead to de-focused images. One you have the three images you will have to bring them into ©Photoshop or ©Photomatrix Pro to create your HDR file. The camera will not create this HDR on its own. there are plenty of HDR tutorials on YouTube. Use a tripod ond a cable relaes when you are shooting in order to reduce movement in you images.

How do I get consecutive shooting on my nikon DX? I need to take multiple shots of someone running so I can capture the movements but I don't know how to do this.

In any shooting mode, press the very bottom left button, it will change the display on the back to a darker color and you will be able to use your circular up, down, left and right buttons to select the shooting mode (It may show up as just a single square with an S in it). press the set button when that is highlighted and it will give you the option to select the single shot (the square with the s) continuous frame advance (looks like 3 pictures stacked) the timer and remote setting are also there. press set on the continuous frame advance and you are ready to rock at 3 frames per second!

Nikon D80 Camera

During shooting, or when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the number of images that can be stored in the memory buffer at current settings is shown on the exposure-count displays in the control panel and viewfinder. "r06" indicates that six images can fit in the camera's buffer, "r08" would indicate eight frames. Any other number could be displayed as well. Burst mode is used when you want to hold down the shutter button and continuously shoot. You are probably shooting in burst mode and your buffer is full, set the camera to single shot and see if that helps.

3 frames per second

Hey there timdjones7, the camera will only shoot 3 fps when placed in Continous Shooting Mode. You can set this via the dial controls on top of your camera. Rotate it to the little icon that looks like a man running. Now you are set to go. Have fun!
