You will have to replace the bad cartridge in order to replace the print head as it is integrated into the cartridge.

Hope this helps.

Epson printers do not integrate the print head in the cartridge. Canon and HP do.

The printhead cleaning cycle needs to be run one or more times until the problems clears up.

How to fix yellow ink showing on page after printing SX425W

Your description of the problem is so vague it would almost be impossible to provide any attempt to resolve this for you. For example - a blob of yellow, patches, lines, missing lines, perhaps a band somewhere across the page or down the page? In any event if it is, say, a thin line running across the page or down the page then that could well be a symptom of a blocked nozzle on the printhead. How often do you use the printer and do you carry out nozzle checks? Is the printer generally in very dry room conditions? So, as an attempt to resolve this for you with only the very limited description you have given, try the following. Set a page to Print to bring the Printer Dialogue Box into view. Click on Preferences and then on the Advanced Tabbed page. On that page, click on Nozzle Check and with a standard sheet of paper in the printer, click to do that check. Examine the output - there will be an example of what it SHOULD look like onscreen - meaning a specific pattern without any breaks in the lines. Even a tiny break indicated some blocking of the nozzle jets. Then use the CLEAN facility offered to clean the nozzles and repeat the nozzle check. That is the most likely cause of your problem. Come back if you still have the problem.

Stripes all over page

one or more of the cartridges will most probably be out of ink, make sure all cartridges contain at least a 3rd of ink and if they do then perform a head clean followed by a nozzle check, if the nozzle check print is not perfect then do another head clean nozzle check & repeat the process until you get a perfect print on the nozzle test pattern.

If that is not the issue then I suspect driver corruption and you will need to un install then re install your printer drivers

Everything is setup properly and the printer actually attempts to print, but nothing is showing on the paper---the ink carts are full, but I have not used printer in a year

It could be that the nozzles on your cartridges have clogged due to long period of non-usage. Try to follow the steps below to clean the print cartridge nozzles:
Using the computer:
  1. Load plain paper. For help, see Loading paper.
  2. Open the Lexmark Solution Center. On your computer, click Start menu > Programs / All Programs > Lexmark 4300 Series > select Lexmark Solution Center.
  3. From the Maintenance tab, click Clean to fix horizontal streaks.
  4. Click Print. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles.
  5. Print the document again to verify that print quality has improved. If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge nozzles up to two more times.

Using the control panel:
  1. Load plain paper.
  2. Press Menu. The menu appears.
  3. Press the down arrow button until you highlight Clean Cartridge. Press Select.
  4. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles.
  5. Print the document again to verify that print quality has improved. If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge nozzles up to two more times.

Cleaning inkjet nozzles

Here's what I found here:

Cleaning the print cartridge nozzles
To improve print quality, you may need to clean the print cartridge nozzles.
Clean the nozzles when:
• Characters are not printing completely.
• White dashes appear in graphics or printed text.
• Print is smudged or too dark.
• Colors on print jobs are faded or they differ from the colors on the
screen.
• Vertical, straight lines are not smooth.

You can use the operator panel or the Lexmark X5100 Series Solution
Center to clean the nozzles.
Using the operator panel
1 Load paper in the All-In-One. For help, see page 16.
2 Press Options until Cartridges appears on the display.
3 Press the right arrow until Clean appears on the display.
4 Press Select.
A nozzle page prints forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the
clogged nozzles.
5 Print your document again to verify your print quality has improved.
6 To further improve print quality, try wiping the print cartridge nozzles
and contacts (see page 44), and then print your document again.
7 If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge
nozzles up to two more times.
Using the Lexmark X5100 Series Solution Center

2 Click Start Programs Lexmark X5100 Series Lexmark X5100

Wiping the print cartridge nozzles and contacts
If the print quality does not improve after cleaning the print cartridge
nozzles, dried ink may be on the nozzles or contacts. To wipe the print
cartridge nozzles and contacts:
1 Remove the print cartridges. For help, see page 38.
2 Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with water.
3 Hold the cloth against the gold nozzle area for about three seconds.
Gently blot and wipe dry in one direction (this prevents the colors in
the color cartridge from mixing).
4 Hold a clean, damp section of cloth against the contacts for about
three seconds. Gently blot and wipe dry in one direction.

My canon iP3500: Black print comes out patchily, despite many attempts at deep cleaning, Each time I deep clean, a couple of pages come out with the black print OK, then it goes patchy again.

It sounds to me like your cartridge nozzles are clogged. That's more common with recycled or refilled cartridges, but it can also happen with new cartridges if they are older. If you just purchased the cartridge you could try to return it. Otherwise, I would try to continue deep cleaning and nozzle checks until it starts to print. It takes a lot of ink, but sometimes that's the only way to get it to print. Usually it will work eventually. Do a nozzle check in between each cleaning and deep cleaning.

Uneven printing

You need to clean the cartridges and the print head. Remove the cartridges and clean the nozzles with a damp cloth, let it dry for a few minutes and then insert them back and now try to print a few pages, it should take about 5 - 6 prints before printing properly.

Blank pages are printing! The printer sounds and acts like it is printing, but the page comes out blank.

Your ink levels may be low (or old and drying up), or the ink nozzles may be plugged. Replace the cartridges if you are out of ink. If you have lots of ink, you could attempt to clean the nozzles with cue-tips and a very mild vinegar-water solution.

Black stripes ove the page

Try cleaning your ink nozzles or ink jets. It sounds like you have a plugged nozzle or two. Your printer program should have maintenance options that allow you to test for plugged nozzles and clean them.
In control panel, open the printing/fax icon, right click on your printers icon, left click properties, then on the bottom of the page the panel that opens you will see a button that says printing preferences, and that should open your print program.
