Ticking noise near top left side of manifold

could be one of two things. #1 is your spark plug leads could be faulty causing thre srark to jump to the block that is earthed to the negative of the battery or #2 it could be that your manifold has a leak will also cause a ticking sound. if you have lost power or your fuel consumption is not what it was before the sound it is probly a leaky manifold> easy to repair and no expensive and it is diy. if you need help contact me

2000 Yamaha V star Classic 1100; Once it warms up, tends to backfire a bit and overrevs in low gear (very high idle). What should be the cause of the high idle.

The idle is set too high. Check on the left side of the engine, about mid point of the jugs "V", you should see a knob near the middle. Turn it R/L until the idle lowers. (slowly!) (only AFTER it has warmed up.

1996 harley sportster. It idles fine but when going it acts like it isn't getting enough gas.

First check for a leak around your manifold. You may just have an intake leak. Shine a flashlight between your jugs and see if their is black sooth around your manifold where it joins the jugs. The guy above doesnt have a clue. It really does sound like an intake leak.

MISSING HOSE ON TOP OF TRANS ? WHERE IT CONNECTS?

If it's the hose to the vacuum modulator on the trans, then the other end should be connected to manifold vacuum. Look for an open port on either the throttle body or carb (whichever you have)... Hope this helps...;-)

Need to reassemble the D.E. filter

All D.E. filters are basically the same. There are two plastic manifolds. One attaches to the bottom of tank by threads or bolts. The other plastic manifold goes on top, and ussually has small holes in this manifold for stainless rods to run through. All fabic looking materials(grids) run between bottom manifold, and top manifold. All grids must be washed free ofD.E.(diatomacus earth). Place bottom manifold on solid ground and begin plugging grids into large holes in manifold so they form a circle, this sometimes takes two people. Place top manifold on other end of grids in a simular fashion.Gently turn assembled filter to its side while holding together, and run ss rods through small
holes in bottom manifold, i n between grids , and through small holes in top manifold. Secure rods with ss washer and nuts, until snug but not overtightened.

Smoking Jug

Sounds like you have a blown head gasket. Does it go away when the engine warms up? Does it "chirp" when you blip the throttle? The changes you made had nothing to do with this, but when you started the cold engine and twisted the throttle to hear your new power the head gasket went away. Harmless until it gets real bad and does not go away when the engine heats up.
