I stated my problem as follows:

I forgot the password for My Tecra A8-S8513, I heard that I may need a master password reset in order to get into my notebook, I took the internal battery out for more than a week, but when I turn the notebook on, it still asks for a password. How may I reset this password so I could get in?

Some expert helped me out, with no solution, so I rewrote the problem, as follows:

Thank you, I think I was not clear enough describing my problem. My notebook has a system password enabled, that means when you turn the notebook on, it asks you for a password, before it gets in windows, it does not let you do anything, not even boot from a CD. Usually there is a master switch or jumper that clears this state, but I could not find it on the notebook. One more thing, as I wrote before, I took the cmos battery out, for more than a week, but still, I cannot do anything without the password .
I hope this time I was clear enough with my problem,

No very much help, but thanks

Well That was straight from Toshiba themselves, so sorry you think that it wasn't much help. Little we can do if a product is designed to be minimally dealt with by the user. But as i stated Toshiba WILL provide further assistance FREE if their published fixes don't work.

If your Laptop has a 25 printer port there is another solution ( not from Toshiba) and it is here, so give that a try

Most Toshiba laptops and some desktop systems will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot. Otherwise you will have to take the laptop to an authorized Toshiba Service Agent to have the BIOS reflashed.

As i said, if the left shift key trick doesn't work on your model of laptop you will have to take it to a shop - the BIOS password on Toshibas cannot be removed by a customer, this is a theft deterrent measure.

Hello,

Its only a phone password that can be reset and not a laptop password. If you cannot remember the password for your laptop, the only solution you have is to re-run windows operating system (Win xp or vista).

If your laptop operating system is windows xp, you can still log into your password by follow the steps below:

  1. Turn on your laptop and allow it get to the stage where is will ask for password
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del on your laptop key board, and it will ask for user name and password.
  3. User name, type in "administrator"
  4. Password, type in "administrator"
  5. Press enter and you should be able to long into your computer.
But if you are using windows windows vista, this will not work because windows vista has a very tight security, unlike windows xp.

But the best way to solve this problem is to re-run windows operating system. You will be needing a windows xp disc or a windows vista disc, depending on the windows your computer is operating on.

Good luck.

If your user name is anything other than "Administrator" you have a chance to get in. When you boot the computer press F5 repeatedly and go to safe mode. In the safe mode you will see many logins depending on how many users are there, one of them would be the user name Administrator. Log into the Administrator account and then in the Control Panel->User Accounts delete the account for which you have forgotten the password and create a new one. Create a new one and after logging into the new one, copy all the documents from the old one to the new one in a my documents folder.

Thank you, but it does not work. The notebook has been set up to ask for a password when turned on. I have not activated the fingerprint log in, therefore it keeps asking for a password when I turn the notebook on before any thing.

The Toshiba Tecra A8 S8413 laptop cmos battery (or capacitor?) does not seem to be working. Symptoms: I set the date and time. As long as the laptop does not sleep or go into power save mode the clock...

The RTC (Real Time Clock) battery charges when the computer in on (operating). You can plug the electrical cord in and let the computer run for 24 hours by temporarily suspending any sleep mode or automatic power saving features. This should sufficiently charge the RTC battery.
