You probably have a neighbor with the same remote .. each fan has a set of code switches on its receiver .. what ever code is selected by the little switches on the receiver (box in the fan) also must be set into the remote control (code switches in the battery compartment of the remote) .. either you or your neighbor will have to change their code ..different codes wont interfere with each other ... if the fan came with the remote control then the switches might be available on the top of the motor housing .. remotes that have been added on require that the lamp section be removed to get access to the receiver .. some older fans dont have a code selection .. the code is stamped on the receiver .. in that case then maybe your neighbor could change his code ...
once in a while a strong or local transmitter will interfere and set the fan on .. if you are near a radio transmitter, CB or ham radio ..
Old batteries in the remote causes erroneous operation also.
