You probably have a neighbor with the same remote .. each fan has a set of code switches on its receiver .. what ever code is selected by the little switches on the receiver (box in the fan) also must be set into the remote control (code switches in the battery compartment of the remote) .. either you or your neighbor will have to change their code ..different codes wont interfere with each other ... if the fan came with the remote control then the switches might be available on the top of the motor housing .. remotes that have been added on require that the lamp section be removed to get access to the receiver .. some older fans dont have a code selection .. the code is stamped on the receiver .. in that case then maybe your neighbor could change his code ...

once in a while a strong or local transmitter will interfere and set the fan on .. if you are near a radio transmitter, CB or ham radio ..

How do I know if the problem with my Hampton Bay Windward II fan is with the ceiling or with the remote. It worked fine for years and now all of a sudden it is hardly ever responding to the remote?

Did you try changing the battery? Unlikely to be the fan, but it could be the receiver.

I HAVE A HAMPTON BAY MODEL AC-418 CEILING FAN. IT

Your issue is most likely a faulty speed control. The part is integral to the remote receiver in the fan housing. You can purchase spare parts for this fan through Home Depot (Hampton Bay) Service at 800-654-0688.

The fan unit itself is manufactured by AirCool 800-896-4908

Hampton bay ceiling fan stopped lights work

you can test the light switch by temporarily hooking up the light bulb to where the fan normally goes ....the bulb will only work on the highest speed setting but can prove if the switch is bad or not . turn power off before woking in there ... if you know someone with a volt meter then they could quickly test the switch for you .. they can also test the motor for continuity .. .. most of the time the trouble is simply bad connections inside the wire nuts ... like insulation not skinned properly or wire not in the wire nut properly ..you can remove and inspect each connection (power off of course) ... sometimes there is a seperate power line for the fan and light ... so they can be independently controlled externally ... thats not needed when the pull chains are the only off on method ...
