Question about ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

1 Answer

Pci express X16 slot one no longer works

Was running two Geforce 7600 gs cards in sli mode. Worked just fine. Now the device manager shows only one card. I switched the cards out. They both work in pciex16 slot 2 but neither works in slot 1. Could slot 1 have gone bad or been deactivated? If deactivated, can I go into bios or anything and reactivate it?

its a known problem asus is starting to ****

  • SteltekDraco Jul 18, 2008

I probably have the same problem - yesterday my PC would not boot nor POST anymore (blank screen and nothing was happenning on power on) and I traced the problem to the faulty PCIe slot for the graphics card. I swapped the card into the second PCIe slot and it worked just fine. Still I need the second slot for a RAID controller card so I guess I will RMA the board. Do you think they still have replacement boards ready as I do not think that this is repairable?

If anything, the BIOS would have disabled slot one. You can try looking in there to see if you can find a setting to reverse it, but it sounds like you're out of luck. Seems like the slot has been KO'd.

Asus P5NSLI mobo?

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5NSLI/#specifications

Supposed to have two expansion slots for PCI Express graphics cards.

If the Blue one is used ONLY, it is PCI Express X16

When two -> SLI-Ready <- PCI Express cards are plugged into the Black PCI Express slot, and the Blue PCI Express slot; the Black PCI Express slot operates at x8.

PCI Express x8

The Blue PCI Express slot does also. PCI Express x8.

So you're stating that one of the PCI Express slots are gone?
Just solder blobs where it should be?

Both PCI Express expansion slots are gone?

There are still the white PCI expansion slots. Not ANYWHERE as good, but any of them can be used for a PCI graphics card.

Can an EliteGroup 945GCT-M3 run a Geforce 440 GT graphics card?

AS it GEFORCE 440 requires (pci express) PCI-E 2.0 x 16 and your motherboard has 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, so you just need to check your motherboards manual if motherboards pci express is x16 2.0 if so, you can go for a upgrade and run. as I found itcan run nvidia geforce 8 or 9 on fixya.

Does the MSI K8n NEO4 Platinum SLI motherboard support the Geforce GTX 550 Video Card?

The MSI K8N NEO 4 Platinum Edition mobo, has an AGP graphics expansion slot. (Accelerated Graphics Port)

It uses AGP graphics cards that are either 4X, or 8X. (Supports 1.5 Volt AGP graphics cards, hence 8X)

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8N-Neo-Platinum.html#/?div=Detail

Click on the Specification tab. Look under the bold - Slots - subheading.

(Overview, { Which is the tab it automatically opens to}, Specification, Download, Support, News and Awards, Where to Buy )

This is Evga's version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625

Click on the Details tab. (Overview, Details, Feedback)

Under the bold - Interface - heading, and to the right of the subheading - Interface, we see the interface is - PCI-Express 2.0 x16.

Tells you a lot right off the bat, if you know what you are looking at.

1) The graphics expansion slot you need on your motherboard, is a PCI-Express x16 slot.

You have an AGP graphics expansion slot. (That uses either 4X, or 8X AGP graphics cards)

2) The PCI-Express technology used is PCI-Express 2.0

Therefore the answer is No, Stephen.

[ More info on AGP graphics technology, and PCI-Express technology,

1) AGP:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGP

2) PCI-Express:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Now if someone asks you, why the GeForce GTX 550 graphics card will not work on your motherboard, you can explain why in detail, instead of just saying some dude/dudette on FixYa, said it will not work.

Are you sure some 'Mom and Pop' computer store will not trade out, a decent AGP graphics card, for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 you have?
Always worth a shot. Just MHO.

New motherboard GA-p67x-ud3-b3 no video on boot

  1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
    * For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.
  2. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)
    * The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode.
  3. 3 x PCI Express x1 slots
(All PCI Express slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
  4. 2 x PCI slots

Yes you can use either Geforce 7300 or 7600 on this motherboard they are compatible with it, there shouldn't be any compatibility issue abetween this MOBO and any of those video cards...

Motherboard specs

Hi dwman113,
Yes your Mach Speed MB will support 2x1 GB, Dual Channel Mode DDR2-800MHz, PC6400 memory modules. (Manual states the memory dimms should be paired).
Also known as matched memory.
Max Shared Video Memory is 256MB, refers only to the integrated built in video card.
Click this link to help you understand what CL stands for; http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/26/3
Small example. CL3 runs faster than CL5.
You can run any PCI-Express 16x graphics card & it can be rev 2.0. Graphics cards are backwards compatible which means it will also run at v1.0. You should not buy a SLI card because you only have 1 PCI-E x16 slot. To run SLI, (Hooking up 2 PCI-E x16 cards together viva a small SLI connector) your motherboard would need two PCI-E x16 slots & the board must support SLI mode & your's does not. Here is the main web site link for your Mach Speed MSA2-6100V MB.
http://www.machspeed.com/specs/viper/MSA2-6100V.html
If you have any more issues or questions just post it & we'll go from there.

Good luck dwman113!
Mike
