Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

3 Answers

I have a Lexmark x4270 3in 1 printer. I am running Windows XP Home Edition service pack 2. The system ran fine together for a couple of years. Now, it won't print. I have tried to re-install the printer and drivers. It still doesn't print! If I go to the control panel and open printers, click on properties, click "test page"; I get a test page that has "windows XP and the next line is cut in half and nothing below that. If I go to trouble shooting and try to print test. I get only the Windows' small flying Window icon in the upper left corner and nothing else. If I open the printer from programs and print a test page from Lexmark, it prints the Lexmark test correctly and in the middle of the page. This problem occurred after I installed a new Webroot antivirus program with antispyware and firewall. This is my home computer, so it was a few days after installing the new antivirus program before I tried to print anything. The printer goes through the motion of printing but the page is blank. Also, The old antivirus progam I deleted to install the new one was Defender Pro. This is all the info I can think of. Please help, I'm going crazy here and being computer illiterate doesn't help. No luck so far. I turned off my Webroot antivirus. That didn't help. I have not reformatted my hard drive. I've misplaced my system disk. I getting over knee surgey and I'm on cruthes. So, I haven't tried the printer with another computer yet. Thanks for all the suggestions. I have not uninstalled Webroot antivirus yet but I feel that is the problem. The computer has developed a mind of its' own. A search for Webroot revealed a lot of complaints. It was recommended to me by Best Buy.
    Thanks for all the suggestions!

Just trying turning off your Webroot and try printing. If doesn't work, change the preferences of Webroot to not start on start up. You can probably right click on the icon on your taskbar. That's the way most are. Reboot and try printing again. If you still have no luck, uninstall Webroot, reboot and try printing again. If you still have no luck, click on start>right click on my computer>right click on properties>click on hardware>. Then click on the plus next to imaging devices. Right click on your printer and click on uninstall. After it's uninstalled. go to the very top to my computer or maybe you gave it a name, right click and click on scan for hardware changes. It will see your printer and re-install it. Try printing again. If it still won't print go Start, accessories, system tools and system restore. Do a restore to a day before you installed the ant-virus. If one of these fixed your peoblem please rate this solutio as fixed to the right. Need more help? Just ask.

Hi hunny

Lexmark x4270 troubles... even if you do the troubleshoting steps, it still wont fix the problem? have you tried changing the printer settings? usually this is all there...

you must try install your printer in a different computer to check if this is still having the same problem.if you asre still having problems, need to have your printer serviced because you have been trying to do this long enough.

feel free to post back an developments on your printer.

btw, worst case scenario, try to reformat your drive and install your printer before anything else...see f the problem is still there...

You may need to check to see which "service pack" you are currently on.

See below requirements:

System Software — Windows XP & Vista
  • Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Edition
    • 32-bit OS Installation Only
  • Windows XP Professional or Home Edition
    • With Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3

  • Not Supported:
    • Windows Vista 64-bit (any version)
    • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
    • Windows XP Media Center Edition
    • Windows 98, Me, 2000, NT, 95, 3.1, DOS

  • Not Tested:
    • Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Edition
    • Although Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Edition have not been tested or qualified by Digidesign, there are currently no known issues with Vista Home and Home Premium 32-bit operating systems and Pro Tools M-Powered 7.4 compared to the supported Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Edition operating systems.

Windows Vista SP1
There are currently no known issues with Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista based on our initial limited testing and customer feedback. Although full qualification with all Digidesign products has not been completed, we do not recommend against updating to SP1, given the number of important overall system fixes in SP1. We do recommend that you backup your system and create a restore point before updating to SP1, should you encounter any problems after installing the update.

  3. Scroll down, and then click About Media Center.
  4. Click Software Version
