Question about Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

Silvia won't do anything but heat up

Oh horrors. I woke up yesterday and water all over the counter and Silvia is sighing out loud. She was totally dry. She was hot and continues to get hot when I turn her on try but nothing happens when I turn on any of the switches.

I understand there is some kind of reset switch but I can't find it. I looked at the boiler and see only what appears to be a brass allen nut low in front. I have only had her a few months...please tell me I didn't kill her.

No solution, sorry. i just awoke to the same problem. how did yours turn out? the reset didn't work for me as i think my problem is beyond the thermostatic control. anyway, if you have a chance to respond, i would appreciate it.

That is a terrible feeling. Hope you got her fixed by now.

The reset button is a very small button near the top of the brass boiler. It is red and looks smaller than you would think. I had this happen and it worked.

Also, run espresso cleaning solution/descaling through every month at least.

My silvia is less than 2 years old. Yesterday I let the steam switch on and forgot to turn it off after steaming. It was on for about two hours. Then it won't heat up either. Should I get new part

On the happy side, if you tried to re-heat the boiler and found this problem straight after it failed, the thermostat may still re-set once the unit cooled down. So leave it a day and try again. Alternatively, it could be a burnt out fuse or on the less happy side, a burnt out boiler.
If no lights come on its a failed fuse. But if everything else is normal but it still wont heat, the best option is to take it for a service to a qualified technician as it may be that the boiler was damaged.

I just got a new Rancilio Silvia, it's making a loud knocking noise. Is this common if not what should I do?

The pump is a vibratory pump on rubber mounts. It makes a loud buzz when running.

The pump makes a knocking sound when it is out of place on the mounts and banging into something and when the pressure is high (water flow is blocked)

Open the wand all the way (no back pressure) and make some hot water. If the noise changes to a quiet hum, get a warranty repair. If the noise changes some but is still a knock, take out the water reservoir and the pump shield.

You can see the shield by looking down into the cavity left by the reservoir. One screw hold the shield in place. Remove the screw and the shield, and wiggle the pump around in its mounts until it does not bump into anything when running. Then replace the shield, screw and reservoir.

My Silvia no heat-no steam. water goes through

HI
If your lucky.
There is a reset button inside on the front side of the boiler (you have to take the top of the machine off. There are 4 screws and remove the water tank). It is located between 2 black wires and is a red button. Push it in and test. There is also an other problem that you might have. If the brew thermostat2_bing.gif is bad it won’t heat. To test for this, push the steam switch and wait 15 seconds. Then open the steam knob and push the middle button and see if the water is warm. If it is then you need a new brew thermostat. That is the thermostat that has the red dot on the top. It sets on top of the boiler next to the steam thermostat. If you take the top off, make sure that the machine is unplugged.
If none of these things work check the heating element with an ohms meter. The reading in the terminals should be from 12 to 16 ohms. If no reading the elements is bad and you have to replace the boiler.

Rancilio Silvia stopped heating up.

Hi
Check to see if it will heat in the steam position. If it does, then you have a bad brew thermostat, and just need to replace that. Its the one with the red dot. If not, run some water through the wand and see if it is milky? If its milky you have a blown heating element. You can also do an ohms check in the element. There should a reading between the element terminals of 12 to 16 ohms. If you have no reading, your going to have to replace the boiler.

Were you using cleancaf to descale? If so, it is not a strong enough descaler. Use Dezcal. or a Dezcal cleancaf mixture. The two work great together.

Make sure you get some descaler in the solenoid area by turning on and off the coffee button.

Hope it works out for you.
