Hotpoint stove timer replacement

I am replacing the timer (WB19X5306) with WB19X10006 on a Hotpoint stove RS647G0J1BG about 19 years old. The instructions don't show the connection on this old timer. The old timer has 2 white wires connected on one corner and a red and white/red wires connected on the opposite corner. A pink wire is connected diagonally to the white wires. Please tell me how to connect the old wires to the new timer. Thanks!

The new timer came with white wire extentions, the new timer just has 5 terminal male connectors. Thanks

  • Gatorfan5 Apr 07, 2008

The new timer doesn't have the connections in the same place.

The new timer came with only wire extensions and were not attached. I have the new diagram but it doesn't have wire color connections just Output 1, Output 2, L1, L2 and neutral. The diagram for the old timer is not the same as shown in the enclosed instructions. This is my problem. Thanks!

the timers will wire up exactly the same way though you may have to work with the male connectors. As long as the wires from the same corners go to the same spots on the oven you should have no problems with this unless you don't remember the exact configuration which I can find for you

ok, do any of the wires have any color besides white on them, perhaps a line running down them?

well the neutral or ground goes where the pink wire was and the L1 and L2 wires go together and the outputs go together

So try the connection with the L1 and L2 in place of the red and if that doesn't work then it would be the other way around

it shouldn't, it will just be having the power run backwards

HI The range timer is usually located in the control panel on top of the range. If you suspect the timer is faulty, don't try to fix it yourself. Remove it and take it to a professional service person for testing. Here's how to remove the timer:

Step 1: Remove the back service panel to the control panel and release the spring clips that hold it in position, or remove the retaining screws.

Step 2: Push the timer forward to release it.

Step 3: Remove the electrical lead wires from the timer housing. If, when disassembling the timer, you notice that the electrical wire terminals look burned, remove these leads and buff the leads and the terminal points with fine steel wool. Burned and/or dirty terminals can cause the timer to malfunction, but a good cleaning can solve this problem.

Step 4: Replace the old timer or install a new one of the same size and type, if this is necessary. Connect the new timer the same way the old one was connected.

The timer has broken and needs replacing

I had the same problem, we checked all the wires inside and all ok, so phoned stoves and they said that the it sounds like the timer as this is the first port

Replaced the timer and cooker is now working fine - only thing to remember when ordering the timer - my cooker is green and now has a red light instead of green

Hope this helps
