Question about Cooktops
We have a downdraft cooktop vent that has a down (when not in use) and up (when in use) position. After my wife, put cleaning solution on the up/down switch, the vent remains in the "up" position. The blower, however, works fine. I am guessing that the cleaning solution shorted out the switch. I bought another switch, but alas, I cannot figure out how to get into the housing to replace the existing switch! Can you help me with step by step ideas about how to get into the housing and "switch out" the switches? Thank you for your time and help. Re: GE 30" Downdraft Vent Model JVB94SH1SS GE cooktop 5 burner gas model has an exhaust that raises and lowers in on or off position. Switch is located underneath the front and imbedded in the frame of the cabinet. It no longer raises into the ON position. No spills or overuse of this product. Please help. Have checked all connections.

Just get a dryer vent tube the flexible ones and some aluminum tape and that will do it, I had the same problem and thats how the gas company told me to do it and it works excelent.

How do you get the inside area of the vent clean from the grease and oils where the filter is?? I have a rectangular box style downdraft that the vent goes into the floor, I pulled the filter, but the box is to slender to get an arm into to scrub the grease....... does the bottom come off, or is it a sealed unit? How do you get all the brease from the bottom if you cannot reach it?

You can get a new cooktop surface from Maytag/Jennair for $229. It is a pain however to replace it. Where is the crack in your cooktop and does that crack pass directly through a heating element? If not, then you may be able to repair it. I broke the corner off mine, and then dropped the piece (now 5 pieces). I was able to bond them back together and you really can't tell it was ever broken. But, it takes some work.
