Question about D-Link RangeBooster G WBR-2310 Wireless Router (WBR2310)

1 Answer

Cant send or receive email after hooking up D-link wireless router.

A friend game me a linksys wireless router to use and i got on the internet fine, but when i went to read email it came up with an error popped up. So i figured i could send an email, so i tried and another error popped up. So i thought maybe its something to do with the router itself, and went out and bought a D-link and the same things happened. What do I do?

I have also been having problems with email clients connecting to the outside world. I have a D-Link WBR-2310 (firmware 1.04), my computer (win XP home) is plugged into LAN1, I have enabled port forwarding and virtual server for POP and SMTP on ports 110 and 25 respectively. I have rebooted (the PC and the router) countless times. Internet access is fine for wired and wireless computers. An email client has not been tried on a wireless computer. I have tried Outlook Express and Thunderbird unsuccessfully on the wired PC. I keep looking around in different forums and have only found 1 fix: dig up the old wired router (which was working) and put it between the WBR-2310 and the modem. I'm thinking that there MUST be a better fix???

I connected my new WBR2310. I can access outlook on my main PC but cannot access outlook (error states "server is not available) on my Laptop, either connected via wireline to the LAN ports 2, 3, or 4, and via wireless. I can access the internet and VPN with no probelm at all, it just will not connect to outlook. If I connect directly to my modem and remove the router the laptop works fine. Hence it must be a problem with the WBR2310 router. I have rebooted the router many times, and occasionally if I take the coonection out of the modem and plug it into the router without closing outlook (if I'm lucky enough to retain the connection it will work, but as soon as I turn the laptop off the problem comes back.

Problem sending email using Outlook 2010 on a PC and Linksys wireless network

i doubt the router has anything to do with the problem. most likely culprit is a pop server (handles incomming email). check with your email provider to see if they changed servers...
have you made any changes to your router or firewall? i guess it could be a port that got closed that your email was using
eh, here is a usefull website shows server names and ports used

Trying to hook-up a wirless router (Linksys WRT54G) to a SpeedStream 5100 for PS3 gaming on-line.

Before we configure router with PS3, we need first to make sure router is already configure to work with DSL modem. In Setting-Up a Linksys Router Using DSL Internet Service just click this link for reference.

My computer will not connect to the internet when I hook up to the Linksys wrt150n I don,t understand It because it use to work this is about to drive up the wall I have tried resetting the router but it...

If you can connect to the Internet using the LAN cable then your Internet connection is OK.
If you are trying to connect to the Internet using the wireless connection, then your problem is the wireless settings in either the Linksys or the wireless card in your computer.
First check the wireless settings in the Linksys, ie. the SSID and encryption key.
Second check the wireless settings in the computer's wireless card, this must match the route's wireless settings. If it matched then do a Repair connection. this will get the Linksys to issue a new IP address to the wireless card.computer.
If the Linksys wireless settings were changed then configure the wireless card in the computer with these new settings.

Linksys Wireless-G not connecting to internet

Make sure you are plugging the SMC into the WAN port on the Linksys router and not the LAN ports.  Your internet connection (which is your SMC) should always plug into your WAN port on the Linksys.  Any computers that you may need to plug in, like Desktops that are "wired" and not "wireless", should plug into the LAN ports on the Linksys.  If you are not using the WAN port on the Linksys for your SMC modem, then that would explain why you cannot get to the internet on wireless or wired computers.
Here's why you are getting the "low connectivity" message:

Computers don't understand why the Internet is connecting or not connecting...so the "low connectivity" message you keep receiving has nothing to do with your wireless signal strength.   To a computer NIC, "low connectivity" means your network adapter could not find a DHCP server and receive a valid IP address.  When this happens, your network adapter assigns an IP address to your computer in the following range...169.254.0.0, and will display the "low connectivity" message until it is able to receive a valid private IP address from the DHCP server.  You can verify this by going to START | RUN and typing "cmd" (without the quotes), then hit ENTER.  A black box will pop up....then type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and hit ENTER.  This will show you your IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address, and you can verify that your IP address is in the 169.254.0.0 range.  A valid private IP address is typically in the 192.168.0.0 range, but could also be in the 10.0.0.0 range, or the 172.16.31.0 range.    Also, make sure you have DHCP server enabled on the Linksys router for the LAN.  This will ensure your "wired" and "wireless" computers receive a valid IP address.
The WAN port on your Linksys router should be configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP".

Cheers!
