Question about Garmin Edge 305 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Distance and average speed don't compute.

My 305 gives me cadence and speed and heart rate, but will not give me % grade, distance traveled and average speed. It has spent the winter in the basement, but once re-charged, it only gives incomplete information. I'm confused why it gives some info, but not other. Any suggestions?

My solution included changing the battery in the cadence sensor (GSC10). You might not need to.
1. After changing battery, take bike outside. Turn on Edge 305 to acquire satellites (might not be necessary..)
2. Press reset button on GSC10. Should see red/green flash.
3. On Edge 305, go to SYSTEM.
4. Scroll down to ACCESSORIES.
5. On Accessory page, scroll to bottom, under Cadence Sensor, and press RESTART SCAN.
That fixed my Edge 305 - cadence and speed do appear now.

Can not get speed and distance to register although cadence does register

Looks as if your GPS is turned off (GPS transceiver). Or the cadence is OK but the device on the wheel to capture rotation is not well installed.

See GPS device via
Settings>System>General>GPS and check that GPS is ON

My Garmin Nuvi 255w tells me that my milage is between 500-700 m[g? Why? I have my vehicle profile set at 14 mpg city, 18 hiway. Fuel cost $2.60

the garmin will not calculate mpg. The trip computer does show, speed, average speed, distance travelled, trip time, etc.

I want to change the speed on a main h'way where it is wrong

There is nothing you can do about that I am afraid.

1.2 Km is only 72 seconds of travel at 100Kph

For most domestic GPS the faster you travel the more there may be a small time delay beween between where the gps thinks you are in relationship to where you really are.

I used my 705 on my trainer and it did not record distance or speed like my forerunner does. The 705 works fine on the road

the Garmin Edge series rely on GPS to track your location from point A to point B thereby calculating your speed and distance. Its no different from any other GPS unit which require a clear view of the sky. It does not sense wheel movement, so using any GPS on a trainer will show no movement and using it indoors will give you a bad signal. The sensor on the crank used on the Edge 705 is only for cadence and not speed.

Recently purchased a edge 305cadenec/heart rate monitor.cadence is not coming up on the monitor. every thing else is working. Pushed the reset button on the sensor the speed light was fine the cadence...

Suggest you first try changing the battery in the sensor...then reset, then rescan for it on unit. It seems like quite a few have been shipped with dud batteries.

Good luck!

Garmin Edge 305/GSC10 Cadence and speed sensor

Had the same problem. Here is how I fixed it.
1. Changed the battery in the cadence sensor. (GSC10)
2. Turned on my garmin 305 edge outside to acquire satellites (probably not nec but did it anyway)
3. Pressed reset on the GSC10, saw red/green flash (what order?)
4. Here's the missing step: On the Edge unit, go to SYSTEM.
5. Scroll to bottom, choose ACCESSORIES.
6. On acc. page, go to bottom, under Cadence Sensor, to the option RESTART SCAN. Press That. Now your cadence and speed should work.

My Garmin 305 wont record calories when I'm in the Gym. I select the "Other" sport mode, the little guy skiing, and It doesn't recored or even register calories? It records during my Jog sessions while...

The 305 uses distance to calculate calories. They sell a "foot pod" that you can use indoors, and that will count your calories by calculating the distance you have traveled. The problem however, is that using distance to calculate calories is so inaccurate! The calorie count that the 305 provides is almost always WAY too high. Other heart rate monitors use heart rate to calculate calories burned, and it is a much more accurate measure. My garmin thinks i burned 700 calories an hour today while i was snowboarding, and, while that would be nice, there is NO way it's true!!
