Question about Weber Genesis Silver C Grill

Open Question

I move mobile homes for a living. I have a weber omni hitch on my toter truck. I have replaced the switches, plugs, and wiring on the controller. The hitch goes in and out, up and down, and left and right. I have had an intermitent problem with the hitch mostly not wanting to go right. Now it is no longer intermitent and won't go right at all. The spool valves are not stuck. The pump is operating at 2600 psi. It is supposed to operate at 2500 psi. Have had the reservoir off and it is clean inside and the filter is clean also. There is a light on the magnet spool valve assembly idicating that there is power reaching each assembly of which there are three. One controls in/out, up/down, and the third left/right. The ownner of the company said we still might have a bad wire between th light and the magnet so we replaced the middle spool valve assembly which controls the right/left directions. We replaced it on the weekend so I couldn't get them on the phone for more troubleshooting ideas. There are no leaks any where so I susspect that there is a check valve that is stuck or some other problem with the cylinder that pushes it to the right. How do I check the left and right cylinders to see if there is a problem? what would I be looking for? And what needs to be done to fix any possible problems with the cylinders?

Sounds like you have a faulty regulator. If you replace this make sure that you get a replacement of the same size.

Check your instruction manual, you have probably set off the safety valve in your propane tank. It is set to trigger if there is an open connection, such as turning on the jets when the tank is turned off. You may have to re-connect the tank...careful of course, make sure it's valve is off.

SOURCE: Weber Genesis Gas Valve will not turn

If the valve is stuck and wont budge, the only real solution is to have is replaced. Unfortunitly, Weber does not sell the valves separately and you would have to replace the entire manifold. Before going out to buy the parts, call Weber to see if your still under any warranty, even if your not they still sometimes send parts at no charge.

SOURCE: Weber Silver Genesis C regulator purging gas after reset process

This could be caused by a couple of problems. First the regulator could be bad, or the tank is getting to hot. Which causes the relief valve to open and release pressure. This will happen when weather outside is hot.

I've just moved to the US and need a new regulator for my Weber Summit E-450. Is there a specific regulator for this model?

Hi imclaughlin...

No the regulator is not "grill specfic"...you can normally go to Home Depot, Loews, WalMart and buy the new regulator with new hose/s already attached for a decent price and replace the faulty one on your grill.

To determine if it is the switch, remove the wires from the back of the switch and touch them together, if the lights come on, it is the switch. You will have to contact Weber for a new switch.

I have a Weber Silver B grill that I purchased 12 years ago.I would like to convert it from propane to Natural Gas. I have been told I cant! Is this true? If not, where can I get a conversion kit? Thanks!

Weber stopped selling conversion kits due to some legal action in 2008. There are no longer kits available. What you would have to do to covert it is order a replacement gas valve for the NG version of your grill just to get the orifices. Then you have to replace the LP regulator with a NG regulator. Typically most NG grills do NOT have a regulator but local building codes will require a NG regulator and a different gas line hose.
Conversion of a BBQ gas valve to NG is a matter of drilling out the orifice to a larger hole in an LP orifice.
You will not find anyone that will perform this conversion for you due to legal liabilites.
If you want to convert it... you will either have to order the whole gas control valve for NG or drill out the orifices yourself in your current gas valve hoping your got the orifice hole size correct when you drilled it. Mind you all liability for doing this lies solely with you.

Can you tell if the gas is flowing? Its either dirty or perhaps your regulator got damaged.  I'd check that out.  Above all else, though, be careful!
