If you have changed your CMOS battery then it is more likely a hardware failure, mother board. but first check the contacts of the CMOS battery. clean it well and tighten if u can by lifting the contacts a little. if it is a button type battery. if it is a board mount type, then you have to refer to ASUS service to check the main board.

As mentioned above and also try going into your BIOS and manually setting the date and time. Also check for viruses etc. A long shot but I do remember many years ago there was a virus that was acting in a similar way.

Bad back-up battery

If the computer cannot keep the Date and Time after you set it and when you boot up next time the Date and Time has changes or not set then the BIOS battery is flat and needs to be replaced.
When you remove the case the BIOS battery most likely will be a coin size 3volt lithium battery, type CR2032.
After replacing the BIOS battery, boot up the computer and go into the BIOS setting and set the Date & Time etc.

My lenovo keeps rebooting..when I select ''last known'' it shuts down and restarts the process again

Try to see if you can boot up the computer into safe mode. Keep pressing the F8 key as you turn on the computer and when it gets to the boot menu choose "Safe Mode".

If you can get into safe mode then go into the start menu and go into the system tools folder and then choose system restore. Choose a date on the calendar when the computer was last working properly and let the system reboot and hopefully that will take care of the issue.

If you can't get into safe mode or windows normally then that means windows is corrupted and you'll need to wipe out the drive completely and reinstall the OS and device drivers.

Date resets back to 2001 after being powered off

Try changing the time and date in the BIOS and then save the changes and exit. Then turn the computer off.

Wait a few minutes then turn the computer back on and if the date resets back to 2001 then that means the battery on the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced cause that means the BIOS isn't keeping information in memory.

The battery you would need is a cr2032 battery. Here is an enlarged image of the battery Im talking about:

Hey, so basically I clicked start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore, but apparently I have no restore points. It keeps telling me to restart my computer, what do...

hi!
well! in that case your restore point have been corrupted of certain virus, you can't make any date to restore on that situation,if ever you select a date and no respond keep telling to start, there a file corrupted,if you can use your recovery console or repair your system from installation cd do it.If good if you reinstall a new system of windows your problem was solved.if you can go to save mode and save first your important document to a
usb flush drive or cd,and reinstall a new system.hope this solve your problem.regads

Not keeping time

Go into the BIOS by pressing F2 when you first turn on the laptop. In the main screen you should be able to change the time and date. After you do that save the changes and exit and go into windows and see if the date and time is current.

Let me know how it goes.
