My Presario fan ran all the time. After opening the unit and making certain that the heat sinks were free of debree, I took my Presario to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. For $40 they applied "Thermal Paste" between the CPU and the heat sink. They also recommended that I download for free a program called "Speed Fan" at http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php. This program monitors the temperature and the user can change the speed of two fans in the unit which make the noise. I find that adjusting the fans each to 40% combined with the new Thermal Paste eliminates the problem.088705

How many HDDs/internal devices are you running off *********** board? If you have an AMD processor, they tend to run hot too. If your computer is running agonizingly slow or shutting down by itself, I would suggest you do the following:

Take your heat sink off your CPU and clean off the heat sink paste and re-applying. If you haven't done this before, you only need to put it on in a VERY light film so you can partly see through it. Applying too much can cause over heating.

Should rear fan run all of the time or only when needed?

Depending on if the fan is plugged into only a molex (power) connector, or into a fan port on your motherboard, it could go either way. If it's plugged into the motherboard, there's a good chance the motherboard is controlling it thermostatically. A case fan venting out is always a great way to help improve airflow and keep components cool.

Hope this helps!

The fan keeps on running at odd times,,,,

Hi,
You don't have to worry about that. Fan only runs when your CPU is heating up. If you are running a lot of programs at the same time it can heat the processor and can turn the fan on. Fan also runs a lot if computer performance is slow. If you can keep your CPU in a cooler place then it will run less.
Good Luck!

Desktop computer fan runs constantly

Hi,

Desktop fans do run constantly, you cannot avoid this.

The reason they get loud is because there will be a build up of dust on the fan blades.

To rectify this problem turn off the computer and remove the power cord from the rear. Then you need to remove the side panel from the base unit to expose the motherboard.

You will see that inside the case it is full of dust. Look at the CPU fan (the fan on the motherboard) also take notice of any case fans too, they are at the back.

To clean the fans and the case you can use a clean dry paintbrush or compressed air.

Once the inside of the case is cleaned you will see a noticeable drop in noise.

Regards.

Hp a1110n fan runs most of the time. applied new thermal paste to cpu/heat sink connection, cleaned out dust, problem fixed slightly. What else can I do? Also, could there be a bios fix for this?

Your Fan is Thermal Controlled.... It Will Auto Adjust To Your Temperature..

You Can Rewire THe Fan To A 12 volt Constant Source To Correct The Issue Of THe Fan Not Constantly Running...It will no longer be thermal controlled and it will run all the time... (yellow wires are 12v)

My hp pavilion a830n fan comes on constantly and keeps running

I won't say that this is any type of solution but I have never seen a computer or hard drive where the fan didnt run all the time, as soon as I turn on any computer I've ever had the fan runs the whole time it's on.

Blower/fan runs fast any time, shuts off, restarts for long time run.

What kind of system is this? There is a BIOS setting for performance. If you have that set to "performance" then the system will be louder since the fans will run faster all the time to keep the system as cool as possible for performance.

I would lso try using compressed air to dust all vents and fans in the system. If dust is building up, that will act like an insulator and trap heat in the system. When heat builds in the system, the fans will run faster to try to cool the system down.
