My Hotpoint side by side refrigerator will not dispense cubes when the switch is in the position for 'cubes'. It will dispense water when switched to the 'water' position but when I switch it to cubes I only get crushed ice. It also dispenses crushed ice when switched to the 'crushed' position. I have to open the door and fish out cubes from the tray now. Any help on what the problem might be would be appreciated.
I'm having the same problem with my GE Profile Side by Side. The dispenser distributes water and crushed ice with no problem. However, when the dispenser is switched to regular cubes, it continues to dispense crushed ice. Any suggestions?
You may not need to replace the solenoid. If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice. Test it manually with your hand, it should be free to move up and down. If not, then it is frozen with ice. Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out. You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again. Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me
THE WAY A DISPENSER CHANGES FROM CUBES TO CRUSHED ICE IS BY RAISING AN ARM THAT RUNS ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE ICE BIN. IF IT SETS FOR A LONG TIME, IT CAN GET A BUILUP OF FROST OR ICE THAT KEEPS IT FROM MOVING. PULL THE ICE BIN OUT AND TRY TWISTING THE END OF THE ARM MANUALLY. IT SHOULD OPEN A DOOR AT THE FRONT OF THE BIN THAT WOULD ALLOW THE ICE TO BYPASS THE CUTTER ASSEMBLY.
ALSO,WITH THE ICE BIN REMOVED, PUSH THE DOOR SWITCH BUTTON CLOSED BUT KEEP THE FREEZER DOOR OPEN. WHERE THAT ARM GOES IN THROUGH THE BACK WALL, CHECK FOR MOVEMENT OF A ROD UPWARD WHEN YOU CALL FOR CUBED ICE. IF YOU HEAR A LOUD HUM BUT THE ROD DOESN'T MOVE, YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE SOLENOID ASSEMBLY IN THAT MODULE.

Thank you so very, very much!!! It now works perfectly!
I have the same problem. When I tested the rod (it's actually a white box where the rod goes into) movement it didn't move however it moves freely by hand. I think I need to purchase a solenoid. Will repost once I get the solenoid.
