I do not have the original driver that I need to download my pictures. I see several places to update the drivers but none to get the actual driver itself. Where can I find the driver?

http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/cameras/Digital_Compact/Powershot_S_series/PowerShot_S5_IS.aspx?type=download&page=1 I took a look on the site and I sow that only a software for to manage them is available ..and it seam that this is an updater and Im not sure it will work if you do not have the previous one ..but the good news is the lack of drivers...This means your camera is seen by the windows without a need for a driver ..so it has the driver built in windows..and even without this software you will be able to see the pictures into My computer folder under the removable drive ..(it will see the card in the camera or ..the camera itself by name ..Also you can use the windows autoplay wizard to download auto ..or just get in that folder and copy/paste the photos.
Below are several links to driver download sites. If yyou don't have a driver disk, you may be also able to go to the manufacturer website. Use customer support link, look for downloads, and put the model number in to get the driver to download. Windows XP has several drivers already included in the operating system files. Try installing the card and asking windows to search for a diver when the driver window appears.

In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
