I also have a thin blue line from top to bottom of my laptop screen. I havre a Gateway, that just had new harddrive installed about 6 weeks ago because of problems with it doing what I asked of it. This is about two days old and doesn't really bother me except it should not be there. I have shut down, restarted, closed out all programs and when I open it, still there. Is it a pixel that is shot and carrying the line.. I am working around it but would love to know how to fix it..

my dad droped my laptop on my way back from a trip when it fell of the bellcart( which was a good 8 feet in a bag filled with my clothes) and next time i opened it a blue line a pixel thin ran the length down my laptop and would dissapear if the screen was pushed back a little bit but when you stopped it would come back and then my screen would go out with the lightest tap anywhere on the laptop and if the cd/dvd drive was opened it would go outi found out that a connection from the cd/dvd drive to the monitor came lose and is what caused it cost 97 dollars to get it replaced and installed (at jtech) and all the problems went way but the blue line waent away before i got it replace for some reason thenlast night it fell 2 feet off my bed onto carpet and i opened it about 2 hours ago and a RED line appered in the same spot as the blue but luckily the screen didnt go out with a tap will someone please help me

  • Anonymous Apr 16, 2009

blue line appeared about 30 min. after cleaning the screen. some 15 minutes later, another parallel blue line appeared but disappeared in about 10 min.
    It's Sony Vaio laptop.

  • Anonymous Apr 22, 2009

I also have this annoying blue line running down my computer. It comes and goes and sometimes I can tap the screen or bend it up and down and it will go away. But sometimes it just stays there to annoy me. I had once already replaced the screen since I had it even worse before where it looked like I had 2 colour bars on it so it was much worse. Still my 2nd screen and still get this damn line. No more Acer products for me in the future. It's not even worth replacing the screen, might as well just buy another laptop.

I have had the same problem

This happens from overheating or from physically abusing the screen

I have an acer, which can take a lot of punishment, but i throw it around and keep it on 24/7 until it gets so hot the plastic starts to smell and melt

Awesome computer, it still works very well for the price (500$)

It developed blue lines on the screen lately and i know from previous experience acer will replace your screen as this may be a factory problem

If you're a freak like me who runs his computer all the time though, they aren't going to listen to you for one second and you have to deal with it

A) Dont use your computer as much (that sometimes fixes it)
B) Buy a better cooling deck
C) Dont abuse the screen (any bending or even the slightest tap can kill it)
D) If the problem doesnt go away, make peace with it and get used to it
E) Replace the screen (i dont want to, so now i have kewl blue lines on my screen)

I have had this fault just develop, i notice if itake top corners of the screen and pull the left corner away slightly and the right corner closer the line vianishes, the line is not visible if the screen on is white or very light blue, but any other color and its there

so I suspect this a loose/damaged connector pin in the color control

I experienced the blue line down the middle of my Dell XPS140 laptop screen. I thought all was lost, but I just gave a few firm taps to the face of the screen up and down the line, and it went away! I feel lucky not having to spend any money to fix it!

I started having this problem too after my Compaq laptop overheated. I'm going to try leaving it off for a few days to see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't then I'll just have to live with it.

I have a yellow line and two thumbs by it is a very bright blue line.
I think there is alot of reasons these lines come.
One is that your computer is old and you start runing out of screen electricity, then when your computer trys getting fix it uses the color you need instead of electricity. That yellow line on my laptop started like that and to get rid of it you have to buy color cards for laptops and plug them in. But they are really expensive.I usally try deleting all the pictures that I dont need and have a lot of MB used
but it's up to you. A second reason they pop up is that you wiped your computer with something that could leek in tiny holes of your computer and losen the stuff and sometimes the screen. When the screen gets losen it stops touching the color blocks on your computer so it starts sending color. But it's not like you could tell your computer where to put it. Sooo it just puts it in lines on your screen and will keep doing it intell you replace it or something.
When you replace your screen it mite go away. Some kinds of laptops have it gone then they comeback. But you mite try to take a chance of your money. My fingers are tired. I mite post some more reasons later this week.

There is simply no fix for this really other than replacing the screen when it gets too annoying to put up with. I've had a quote of £180 from a business to do it for me and I've found a 2nd hand replacement on an auction site for £125 if I fit it myself. I'm going to try the latter.

Hi there

regarding that issue that you are having with the external monitor is not working with your sony vaio here are some steps that might help to have it working

connection between the monitor and laptop
- VGA ( blue adapter ) or DVI ( white adapter )
- check if the connected properly
- try to use a different VGA cable
- check if the monitor is detected by the computer
***please also do a monitor selftest on the external monitor***

- HDMI

- check the settings of the TV for the HDMI

I was playing online games on my sony vaio. Suddenly I got blue lines on the screen and the laptop stopped responding. So I tried restarting the laptop but I get blue thin vertical lines before the laptop...

Blue thin lines before it boots will rule out an operating system or driver fault. So it would appear something in the machine has failed.
Do you have a VGA monitor you can connect to it and see whether it shows the fault? This will show that if the fault also shows on the external monitor, it is likely an electronic fault on the main board, whereas if it works on the external monitor but not on the built-in monitor, my guess would be the cable that goes from the main board up through the hinge of the screen into it, or a connector, or an actual fault with the LCD display.
Windows booting normally once the display drivers were disabled indicates to me that Windows is no longer detecting the faulty display and therefore boots normally - possibly pointing to failed electronics in some way. It could even be corrupt BIOS that controls the video or something along these lines, though that's unlikely.
Good luck, either way it sounds like it's off to a computer repair shop. Is it under warranty?

Coloured vertical lines down lcd screen

To isolate the issue, i strongly recommend to connect the notebook to the external monitor by VGA port which had BLUE colored on the notebook. So that if it is normal then you need to confirm the issue is with the LCD display.

Get an old monitor CRT or LCD. Connect this to the back of your laptop to the appropriate connection. Turn on this monitor and your laptop. Now on your laptops keyboard are some blue highlighted keys called function keys. Press and hold the one marked "Fn" and then press the F7 key (on my Sony - yours may be different but the key with a small blue rectangle with LCD inside a foward slash to what looks like an oval with square sides) this is the external monitor key. If the external monitor comes on with the laptops screen information then your mercury lamp in the laptops screen has died. Then a reputable repairman can replace your screen and lamp for $200. - $300. If nothing appears on the screen then most likely the video chip in your laptop has died. Replacing this will require a new motherboard for the laptop. You should contact Sony about price and any extended warranties they may have,

LIGHT BLUE VERTICAL LINE ON MONITOR

The vertical line is a bad pixel sensor at the edge of the screen, your screen has hundreds of vertical and horizonal pixel sensors. This is an indicator that the screen is going out and need replacing.
