Question about TV Receivers & DVRs

1 Answer

DVD Movie I recently received a DVD from a friend in Australia. The movie was brand new, still factory wrapped but it won't play in any of my DVD players. A message comes across the screen stating "Prohibited play in this area." Is there anything I can do to break the regional code so that I can play it on my DVD player?

The reason I never completed my request was because I didn't realize right away that I do not even have a DVD drive. I only have a CD-rom. I know I sound pretty dumb, but I just took for granted that if I could burn CD's I could burn a DVD. Thanks for your help and consideration. Your program sounds great and I will keep it in mind for when I upgrade my PC. Thanks again!

Your movies have to be converted into .avi format. There are many websites to download video format conversions depending upon your PC's operating system. Once you have found the right software, you will have to attach your Ext HD, then open each movie & click 'Convert to AVI'. Once completed, you can delete the original. LG 399d - new - trying to play Avatar movie via the USB port - will not recognise this movie format. In DVDSCR AC3 XVID. AVI. Other movies same format play well not this one. Why? What to fix it? Dave

It is probably a corrupted copy,or perhaps the codec is slightly different from the one, used by player, there could be many reasons indeed. It could be a bad "Header" file. Try re doing the copy again, and see.

I just got a blu-ray player and when I play some of the movies it will not come through the speakers. I have a surrond sound system that plays well on some movies and also plays the bonus features, but not...

DVDs have more than 1 sound track on them. That is to say different sound codings. You may well have to select the correct sound track on the dvd to suit your surround sound sysyem, this will be found in the options screen of the dvd (thestart menu).
Failing that, you may need to change the sound coding on your surround system to suit a particular film.

Movies play background noise but no speech. wont allow you to reset factory settings.

This usually happens when you switch between 5.1 or 2.1 there is usually a button or switch on the front of the unit that allows you to cycle through the various speaker setups.

It also happens a lot with downloaded movies where the sound track has been modified to save download bandwidth or if a format change was made eg. dvd to divx
