Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP79 Gas Kitchen Range

GE Profile JGBP86WEA2WW Won't get hot...

I read your diagnosis for a GE Profile where the oven won't get hot.  Given that my broiler works, but the oven doesn't it sounds like the igniter is bad.  You indicate that this is a job that I could most likely be done by the consumer, without calling in a professional.  You also indicated that you might have step by step instructions.  Would you be kind enough to share those with me?  I'm assuming that I could find the proper part on-line.

Sure. If you go to my profile and look under "Tips and Tricks" section. I have a complete write up on how to replace an igniter in an electric oven. If you can't find it, let me know and I will forward the instructions to you.

PS Yes, this is a simple job that anyone can do. The igniter will cost you about $30 - $60 depending on where you get it. It will save you big $$ in the long run, if you avoid the labor charges :).

If the model number you provided is correct, you can find the part you need at Just type in your model number in the Search menu and you will find it listed on the first page as item #1990. Let me know if you need further assistance.

GE Gas Oven and broiler not working

No, there is a "hot-point" ignition for each but they are both controlled by the ignition module, easy fix, follow the wires (2) from the Broiler ignition point.... they will lead you to the module. More then likely it's wire connection came apart.....

GE Profile Oven Door Lock Broken...

It sounds like your door latch motor, and/or interconnecting wiring may be bad. You will need to carefully lift the top panel and/or rear panel and locate the latch motor and linkage. If you go to and look under the "Body Parts" heading, there is an excellent exploded view diagram. The latch is listed as item #279. Your exact model number was not listed, but if you use JGBP86WEA1WW or JGBP86WEA3WW, these will suffice. With the top of the range lifted, inspect the latch for any broken wires and attempt to operate the control panel to see if the latch works. If not, replace it. The part number is WB2K10010. This same part can be found at for about half the price. Let me kow if you require addtional assistance. I hope this helps you.

GE Profile Spectra XL 44 gas oven

If you can smell the gas when you turn on the oven, it may be on a separate igniter that has gone bad. I would check this first. If you are not getting gas to the oven, there is possibly an issue with the supply line.

GE Profile Spectra Broiler not lighting

I'm not an expert, and I'm reading you're post while looking for a solution for our oven, so this is in no way should be taken as a suggested solution, it isn't!!! it is anyway: I think it might be a bad ignitor, I have replaced a couple on our stove and both times we had exactly the same symptoms you're experiencing, I think also we're in line for a third ignitor for this "less then 10 year old Magic Chef". Good luck
