Question about LG enV VX9900 Cellular Phone

Typing * symbol

When ever i insert the * symbol, it inserts the number 86 after, and keeps adding 86 every time i enter a star(*). I have had the phone for a day and it worked before

Any suggestions?

I have tried shutting off my phone and turning it back on.

When I try to type $ and hit sym 4, hit gives me "$119?" everytime.

I have the same problem- NOT in T9 Word. Its when I use the text entry in creating a message.

I hit SYM + K to make " and it types "Eh,
Also I type SYM + 4 to make $ and it types $30

Both times with the cursor between the character I want and the stuff I don't. I can remember once typing those values but I never tried saving them in any way. Not sure why my eNv thinks I want them.

I have a very similar problem to the ones noted above.

When texting (with the QWERTY keyboard), everytime I enter * (SYM+8) - I get *228.

    When I enter $ (SYM+4) - I get $40.

    When I enter " (SYM+K) - I get "143".

These appear to be the values I entered the first times I texted using these symbols. However, everytime I want to use these symbols, I don't always want to use these values!

This happens while Texting with the QWERTY keyboard only. When texting using the front keypad, that doesn't happen, obviously.

    WE NEED HELP!

Same problem here, when I enter symbols I additional words or digits.
    " becomes "I'm
    ( becomes (2.2ghz)
    $ becomes $1.50

This is a problem with LG's T9 autocomplete database that affects other LG phones as well.

I have a solution, but it's not for the feint of heart. It requires BitPim (bitpim.org). BitPim is a great app that does a lot more than fix this problem. It can be used to backup the data (calendar, contacts, notes etc) on your fone onto your own computer as well. Be warned though, it's not very user-friendly and it can be a hassle to get it set up at first.

You can learn more about BitPim from here.

Anyway, assuming you have BitPim working and talking with your phone (don't ask me about this part, see the link above)

Open BitPim, and look through the phone's Filesystem. This selection isn't shown by default. On a mac (and probably PC too), go to the view menu, then select "View Filesystem". "Filesystem" with a brown drawer icon will appear in the left hand column of the main window.

After the data is loaded from your phone, scroll down to "t9udb" folder in the second column. In the pane that loads, right click on "t9udb_eng.dat" and delete it. Restart your phone and the problem will be gone, and you can go back to using T9.

You will lose your saved t9 autocompletes, but you'll also get rid of this bug temporarily. This is a recurring problem, so you might have to delete this file every once in awhile. One way I've found to prevent this problem is to always type a space after a symbol. IE To type out "$260", I would type $ - space - CLR - 2 - 6 - 0
As annoying as this is, using this method is better than having to deal with all the weirdness that happens through regular use.

Good luck

If you're typing with T9word enabled as the default text entry, it will auto fill whatever you've typed before.
Put your text entry settings back to the standard ABC and the problem should go away! =]
hope that helps!
cause it happened to me too :p

If you are trying to call someone u have to make sure you use the symbol button before you put it in. when you put the star in you are calling your voice mail. If u r trying to txt then try taking out your battery.
