Question about Garmin nuvi 350 GPS Receiver

Garmin Nuvi Firmaware Update Complete, Unable to catch satellite signal

Garmin nuvi200 was working fine and all of a sudden started getting following pop ups repeatedly and since then the GPS unit is not able to catch the satellite signal.

"Updating GPS Firmware 1%" This is followed by another pop up stating "GPS Firmware Update Complete". It can't "acquire satellites" either

I am still not able understand, how it started firmware update as I have never connected it to PC before. Is this set sophisticated enough to do firmware update from the satellite? :)

I tried reset on Garmin. After that, also tried with installing new latest firmware through Garmin Webupdater, But no results.

As soon as I start Garmin unit I get above popups. Please Help me.

I have the same problem with the Garmin nüvi 250.

Under Settings -> System -> About, you can read "GPS SW Version: 0.00s"

I tested the Software Version 4.10 with WebUpdater and the Software Version 3.40, that I have receive from the Support.

I have the Nuvi 350, which is irratic at picking up a satellite signal, usually ending up with the "are you indoors now"? message. This is even with the external antenna mounted on top of the car. Insanely, this is my second nuvi 350 with this problem. This second unit was sent to me by Garmin as a replacement for the 1st unitl with the same problem. Does anybody know what gives?

I have seen the firmware update now about 5 times since buying this unit in December. I saw it again today driving to work. This must be some kind of software problem because the update is never newer than what is in the unit already.

Nuvi 200 - one day 100%, next day repetitive cycle of 'Acquiring Sattellites' - 'Updating GPS Firmware'.

Have downloaded new firmware with and without memory card present, have pressed reset at back of unit, have contacted my dealer who helped me out with a spare unit until issue is resolved. My unit is going in for check-up and or repairs tomorrow

Even i have the same problem with my Garmin nuvi 200 i bought it 6 months back and now for a few weeks it has stopped getting satellite connections and it keeps showing me fimware upgrade messages.

I'm planning to give to geek squad in best buy from where i bought it. hope they will be able to fix it.

I also searched the Garmin;s support site and they have mentioned something related to upgrading the gps using webupdater program and in case that doesn;t work, they have asled to do a mster reset. I may try that before giving it to geek squad

I'm having the same problem with my nuvi 250w. Did the master reset today and still no luck. I think it can never acquire satellite because every time the firmware update runs, it restarts the search; and because the firmware update bug keeps firing off every 60-90 seconds, it never has a chance to acquire. Anyone have any luck finding a solution?

same thing happened to me today after update message...I wonder if this is the firmware programmed by Garmin to force users to payup the money for the map upgarde?

  • C-Slice Sep 02, 2008

I also have a Garmin Nuvi 200, and is having the same problem of not getting any satellite signal. Before that happened, it got me lost a couple of times, or made me go in circles. Now it's just flashing a big red question mark, and has absolutely no signal.

I have the same problem with my nuvi 350. Although it's 2 years old, I've had flawless performance up until about 3 month ago. What is the fix?

I would hate to go to another company's nav unit. But I will if I have to.

Hi, I had the same problem on a Nüvi 200. Managed to fix it by performing these steps:

1. Performed an update using Garmin's WebUpdater. Updated to version 4.40 and also updated the "Chipset M" which you can select as an additional update after the firmware has finished updating.
2. Did a master reset using the button on the back of the unit with the unit turned on.

Hope this helps you,
Best regards from Iceland

First you have to take apart the unit , then you have to unhook the battery wait 2 to 3 minutes and plug the battery back in and turn on every thing has been COMPLETELY Wiped out. and it will start fresh as the day you bought it Mine did the same thing and these steps work.

I updated the firmware to FW5.0 from the Garmin webupdater and my nuvi 200 works great now.

Hi, I have new Garmin Colorado 300. I use it for one day and same problem started. I am very angry. Exact same message "Updating GPS Firmware 1%" flash each 60-90 secconds withou any GPS signal. Damned device only one day works.

Posted on Sep 04, 2008

I have seen the firmware update message randonly while driving 5 times since December. I saw it happen again today. The firmware is never newer than what is installed already and I only updated using webupdater once. Must be a software issue checking some location in code and thinking the firmware needs updating.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi Firmaware Update Complete, Unable to catch satellite signal

So what happens when you connect it to the PC?
Make sure no sd cards are installed while you do this.
download and install web updater, run it it gets to a screen where it looks for the gps, plug the usb cable into the GPS (no USB hubs please!!!) Make sure it detects the GPS before you continue. Select the updates you need (don't install all the languages !!) after this is done the program will report the downloads are on the garmin, unplug the unit and it will reboot and whilst rebooting it will install the updates....so don't touch it until it reboots again and displays the regular screen....and make sure the batery is fully charged before you do this...!

More than most do.
Make sure you have the latest nuvi "Firmware"
then update the maps. I would start with making sure you have the latest WebUpdater on your computer before you proceed with any updates.

If a nuvi 200 is has an older version of system software glitches may occur. The device may be missing letters or have jumbled letters or displaying duplicate letters or strange symbols on the address screen. To correct this you will need to update the system software of your nuvi. You can easily do this by using Garmin’s WebUpdater program:
  1. Click the following link to download the WebUpdater program: http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
  2. Follow the on screen prompts from the website
  3. Choose RUN/OPEN
  4. Follow the on screen prompts
After the program has been installed it should run automatically. If it does not please use the steps below.
To run WebUpdater:
  1. From the Start menu, click All Programs and find the Garmin folder
  2. Click WebUpdater
  3. Connect your nuvi to an available USB port on your computer
  4. To search for an available update, choose NEXT
  5. As the program automatically finds updates, choose NEXT to load the update. Once the update is complete, you can search for other updates such as voice languages, Bluetooth, and Traffic Receiver.
  6. Disconnect the unit to ensure it powers on.
Take your unit outdoors and keep it in a stationary position with an open sky view until it reacquires satellites.

Cannot locate saltellite or Acquiring satellite

The error means it can't pick up valid GPS signals. In other words, bad reception.

Has the unit ever worked? Does the unit have an internal or external antenna? Are the batteries fully charged?

Try the unit outside with clear view of sky instead of in the car. This will give it the best chance of picking up a GPS signal.

If it still doesn't then suggest something broken inside.
