Question about Apple iMac G4 Desktop

1 Answer

I need a new inkjet printer

The printer needs to have drivers for classic nine and 10.3.9.  I would also like if I could print on CD's & DVD's.  My email is: murraythepet@yahoo.com Thank-you Robert Mitchell

I don't care what brand as long as it is compatable with my Mac and is an inkjet of good quality.

  • idocker Apr 10, 2008

I have taken the time to read the comments made from people who have purchased the R800. There were alot who were very disapointed in the amount of ink it used, it became quite costly. Maybe you can suggest something other than the R800 to look at. Also a little less money if you can.
    Thank-you,
    Robert Mitchell

Unable read cups raster data os lexmark

It's a Driver issue. You need to reset the printing system by deleting the current printer and re-adding it, like this:

  1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
  2. Select Print & Scan.
  3. Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
  4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
  5. Type your user Name and Password .
  6. Click OK . The printing system resets.
  7. Next go to the Library\Printers folder and move the Lexmark folder to the trash.
  8. Under Print & Scan, click the plus sign and re-add the printer.
  9. The drivers should be reinstalled automatically.

How to Get Your Lexmark X7100 Series Printer to Work with Leopard

If you are reading this, then you either obtained a Lexmark x7170 printer which does not seem to work with your Leopard OS or you upgraded to Leopard only to suffer numerous printing issues.

Don't toss your printer into the trash . . . it is possible to make your printer work with OSX Leopard and the following steps will help you achieve this.

The first thing you need to know is DO NOT use the drivers on the Lexmark CD or the ones you download from Lexmark's Web site. Instead, use the drivers that come on the Leopard DVD.

If you upgraded from 10.4, do the following first 4 steps in order to clean up the old driver first before installing the new one. (If you have a clean install, skip steps 2, 3, and 4).

1. Unplug the USB printer cable from your mac.
2. On the System Peferences menu, remove the printer queue clicking the "-" button on the Printes & Faxes dialog
3. Delete the Lexmark folder found in /Library/Printers (get rid of both the contents and folder itself)
4. Delete the file LexmarkUSBMerge.kext in /System/Library/Extensions

5. Insert the Leopard Installer DVD and click Optional Installs

6. Click Optional Install.mpkg

7. Go through the installation process. On the installation type, select
Printer Drivers and click Lexmark Printer Drivers. Click continue and
complete the installation process.

8. Reboot the system

9. Plug back the USB cable

10. Add the printer queue back (if not automatcially)

If the above procedure did not work for you, start over from the beginning but make sure to run a complete search and remove all instances of the
LexmarkUSBMerge.kext file. The procedures above should restore printing back for your Lexmark.

Have an Epson Stylus CX5000 & A new iMac. OS X. I am unable to see what levels my ink supplies are with my Epson. With my old PC I could always see which ink was low or? What do I need to do to be...

If you are running the drivers included in the Mac OSX, you won't have levels. These are generic/running drivers only.
Hit this Epson site for current drivers.

Happy printing! :)

Can I connect my apollo 2250 to my old imac?

OS X drivers for the Apollo 2250 apparently exist only in 10.5 and 10.6, both of which your iMac G4 is too old to run.
If you have this printer attached to another computer on your home network, you could activate printer sharing and allow your G4 to print to it that way.

Printer offline message

I had this problem once too, after I installed the latest drivers It worked.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3192753
The CD you are installing it from might have outdated drivers on it, so these should fix the problem.
Also using the printer's software and not your mac's could help also, download it here:

Printer will not add to my computer

Ok, since you state that you have an older iMac, I'm going to presume that it is not an Intel-Mac and that your OS X version is Linux based. So with that information known, you will just have to search for the printer (Lexmark 3400) drivers for the version of OS X you are currently running. Since the older Mac's use CUPS instead of drivers that PC's use. Basically instead of searching in Google for a Lexmark 3400 print drivers for an iMac, you would need to instead search Google for CUPS Lexmark 3400 OS X. Then you would get a link like this:

http://fixunix.com/ubuntu/505065-lexmark-printer-ubuntu.html

And if you follow that link you would get to download the needed file(s). And usually the installation instruction is there on the same site. It is a bit confusing to figure it all out but if you get lost there come back and post it here and someone will help. And if i happen to come across you i will be glad to help with the confusing manual installation of the CUPS into your iMac.
