Your Thinkpad should work off the router your desktop was working off of if your Thinkpad has a network card of the same type (wi-fi or RJ-45 cable) and speed that is compatible with your router (A, B, G).

If you had security settings on your router to filter users you will have to adjust them to accommodate your new Thinkpad. You or someone who has access to your router's interface would have had to specifically change security settings to make this necessary though.

Hope that helps! :)

Oops! Didn't notice your question was about a specific device before. (I'm new to this site and it appeared to come up under a different section).

It says it's about a router, but the product pic indicates it's a Panasonic wireless network adapter. I'm going to assume your Q was about that product now.

That device needs to use a PCI slot, which laptops do not have, so this device will not work with your Thinkpad laptop.

    Hope that helps! :)

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

Netgear usb adapter will not acquire ip address from router

Most laptops have a wireless card built in them and if you have one you should try using that instead and form past experiences USB adapters don't generally work on laptops in which case if you laptop has the slot for it you should buy a card like this http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adapters/SuperGWirelessAdapters/WG511T.aspx

Laptop cannot connect to router with WPA-PSK security

What I believe here is you are not typing in the pass-phrase(wireless password) correctly.

Go to 192.168.1.1 log on to the router ,in wireless section you will find the pass phrase,, create a new one and then try to connect.
