Question about Akai PDP4294 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television

Will not turn on, only blinking green light

My Akai PDP4294 has been working fine for over 4 years. just a few weeks ago it went off suddenly when my son was playing game on it. I tried to unplug the power and plug back in, the front led will turn on red, then flash red, orange, green a couple of times and then blinking in green forever. I took the TV apart, 2 450V/330uF capacitors on power supply board were popping out on top, I replaced them, but did not fix the problem. the power supply board has only +5V working, 3.3V and other outputs have no voltage at all. All fuses are fine. I'm thinking about buying a new power supply board, but not sure if it will fix the problem. Any thought would be appreciated.

It is a rough gamble to speculate but if all you have on the PS +5v and +3.3v it's obviously toast.. It would help at this point to have an adjustable dc supply and scope now to trace yest the remainder of the set but for the cost of a good scope you could buy the Tv new... Just going to have to go with your instincts on this one. I could add that usually in lcd cases where the supply has failed it's simply isolated to the supply.
Good Luck!

LG 42 LCD no sound or picture

Did anyone find out the solution for this??????? I have the exact same problem with my LG 32 LCD. I only had it for a year and a half, and the green light blinks a few times and it shows no picture. Not even a red light when the tv is off. The same thing happened a couple weeks ago and by some miracle it started working again.

Ok, your on the right track... Check the main fet or fets that is located right by the caps. Normally if the fet is short, it will pop the fuse, but if your caps poped instead, it could have prevented this. With the set unplugged, you can take a meter set to ohms (lowest setting possible) and if you read a value across any of the 3 pins on the fet (short), then it shot.. If that checks out ok, then take a peek at all the other smaller caps that are on the hot side of the board (the bottom of the board will be labled hot and cold. If one of these was out, it would prevent any of the other voltages from being present. The 5v is a standard test signal, it will normally notify the rest of board to power up when there is a draw on it (kind of like a computer power supply). But I highly recommend replacing all the caps on the hot side of the board and it should fix your problems.

No picture ; no sound

the red blinking light usually has a pattern that gives you a code to the possible problem.
Maybe you have a bad power supply board. You have to open the panel and do a few tests on the power supply's outputs to be sure.
It produces a variety of voltages for different parts of the tv ie. the plasma display panel and the audio system. The components supplying power to the audio system may have failed a year ago and recently the pdp.

plasma tv's are expensive to repair, most of the time you can get a better tv for the same price. You can reduce that cost by learning and troubleshooting it yourself.

Akai Plasma TV's screen suddenly went blank -model PDP4294

Same thing for me. TV just turned off one day and won't come back on. LED flashes red. Someone said it's because a cooling fan went out. If I can't find someone to fix it I'll take it apart and tinker myself. 32" with dvd built in was barely over a year old.

Repaired one of these with the same symptoms about two weeks ago. My guess is that the SMPS has failed. In laymen's terms the power supply, Samsung p/n#Bn96-00249a and you should be able to purchase it at Vance Baldwin http://www.vancebaldwin.com/ and just sign in as a guest, select parts# and input the number above (no dashes). Be seated when you do they're a bit spendy - - about $270.00 dollars plus shipping and a $50.00 core... You get that back when you send them the old one.. After you get the back off the PS is located in the middle of the unit at the top of the screen. If you need the service manual to help just let me know. It's actually an easy plug and play repair... Good Luck Bill premtech@willapabay.org

I had the same problem, but I had no sound at all. The power indicator light was flashing green. I tried to unplug the unit and plug it back in, but the light then was red briefly, turned orange then flashing green. What I did to solve the problem was to unplug the set and leave it for a few minutes then plug it back in and hit the front power switch at the same time. Voila! It started working again. Good luck solving this.
