Hi bones, you're sempron's revsion may not be compatable with you're board. I suggest you call AOpen's tech support.
For US Technical Support Line: 1-510-489-8928
For other AOpen numbers click the link & scroll down the page.

Hi bones, you're missing the point here chief. The revision number of the CPU may not be supported by your board. AOpen does not list a supported CPU's list. Of course you're sempron 2800 is supported (as you're manual shows) but the revesions of you're sempron must not be supported other wise you're bios would report it at the correct speed.

This is a common issue with newer CPU rev's & older boards.

The only way to check this issue is for you to call AOpen. Please make sure you still have the box the sempron came in. The reversion number is on the box.

Im trying to decide what video card to get with this mother im a huge gamer and i play all games from CoD4 to wow. also does this board already come factory overclocked? how do i configure overclocking ?

motherboards do not come overclocked, unless you bought it from a person that has already done that. For overclocking, you go into the BIOS but make sure you have adequate cooling in your machine. When you overclock you want the CPU cooler fan to blow away from the CPU instead of onto it. Also you want more fans blowing out the rear of the case if you have one intake fan in the front, two in the rear/side panel. Overclocking causes more heat, and shortens CPU lifetime. I believe you press F2 at boot to get into BIOS on your motherboard. in the BIOS settings you can change the multiplier, but if it doesn't add up correctly, your computer will just hang instead of boot and try a different setting. Although this mobo supports Hyper-Threading and supports Untied Overclocking Technology, so it should be simpler to overclock rather than some mobos are tricky to get it going right.

As for the graphics card with this board: it's an Intel processor so you need a graphics card made by ATI. I would recommend a Radeon graphics card with this motherboard. The motherboard is compatible with Front Side Bus 1600/1333MHz CPUs, so make sure your Graphics card you select doesn't have a FSB faster than that, otherwise you will be wasting money.

Overclocking

Overclocking is set from the BIOS configuration. Not all BIOS allows overclocking, it may need a BIOS upgrade.
Check the ASUS WEB site for your model motherboard.
Overclocking the CPU (ie running at a higher clock speed) and increasing Frontside bus speed will give better performance BUT there is a downside too, if you overclock too high you could overheat the CPU and it could fail.

Possible overclock

Overclocking is now set on bios.

Just change the multipliers for desired speed, but be careful

BIOS problem!!

Why do you want to overclock it? Have you changed the cooling system? Overclocking might fry your processor if the cooling cannot keep up with the heat. Does your motherboard support overclocking? The option might be locked. There might be a jumper on the board that you have to mingle in order to enable that setting.

Aopen vkm400an-s

Hi bones698, you can go to the link below & check the bios's listed for your vKM400Am-S board.
http://download.aopen.com.tw/Default.aspx

You will need to fill in the three dropdown windows as follows:
Motherboard
vKM400Am-S
Bios
I have gone over ever bios listed at AOpen.
There is one update for AMD Sempron Processor's. Version R1.01 Release date; 7/27/2004 Please double check your system at boot up for your version. Use the Pause/Break button on your keyboard to freeze your screen. This will give you the time needed to check your current bios version. To flash your bios go to pg. 40 in the manual.

Good Luck! Take your time.

Some Help Please...

Hi,

You can try picking up a BIOS for a PC Chips M810DLU from the company's website here. You need to remember all the usual precautions when flashing.

Please do not expect much improvement or stability when overclocking a PCChip motherboard.

Good luck and kind regards.

Overclocking failed

Hi, If you have overclocked: 1. CPU or motherboard not up to it - run at default speed; or 2. Memory - try using other memory; or 3. Video Card - see if you can run the Video card at default speed and not with overclock speed; or 4. You may need to up the CPU B+ a bit. If not overclocked: a. Set BIOS/CMOS to default settings; or b. Disable any overclocking feature (even if not used); or c. Lower you CAS latency. Hope this be of some help/idea. ood luck and kind regards.
