Can't Clear Paper Jam Message on HP 3930 Deskjet

I have an HP Deskjet 3930 and just cleared the paper jam in the machine. Now my computer will not recognize that I have done this. I have rebooted my computer, unplugged everything, restarted multiple times and cannot clear the message on my computer even though there is no actual jam on the printer now. What to do?

My HP 3930 is doing the exact same thing. There is no jam, but the code will not clear and I am not able to print anything now.

SOURCE: paper jam in hp deskjet d2560

Most printers have an access panel located in the back of the printer that will allow access for removal of all of the paper. Remove any larger pieces by pulling slowly and gently on the paper.

Why won't the paper jam error code clear on HP 3930

First, check to make certain there are no small pieces of paper stuck in the gears of the rollers and carriage. You may have to reach in through the paper tray to move the carriage to see both sides. To do this, the printer must be unplugged.

If you are certain you have cleared the jam, I would do a power reset:
With the printer on -
* unplug the power cord from the back of the printer
* unplug the power cord from the wall outlet
* wait at least 15 seconds
* plug the cord back into the wall
* plug the cord back into the back of the printer
* printer should turn on by itself, if not press power button to turn on
* try to print a test page: (With printer on - while holding the power button in, open and close the front cover of the printer 4 times, then release the power button, self-test should print.)

The following link from the HP Support site is a step-by-step guide to removing paper jams. You may want to follow them to ensure you have cleared all the jams and reset the printer correctly.

The orange light keeps flashing and it says there is a paper jam but I cleared the paper jam but the orange flashing light will not go off.

1. there is a sensor at the end of the printer which shows paper jam recovery. the sensor of your printer may be jammed. clear the jam and it will work. 2. if not, there may be a small piece of paper near the sensor of your printer. clear it.

Middle light blinking message says paper

Look for any small rips of paper caught in a sensor back there. There are little "fingers" that the paper runs over and its all timed. if one of those sensors are jammed with something or sticky, error messages.

Paper jam without any paper deskjet F370 all in one

Hi there,

Here is the most important thing to understand about paper jams in any printer....

The printer does not know if there is a paper jam anywhere in the printer.

What it does do, is respond to sensors ( optical sensors, either open or closed, by plastic flags). These flags are moved as paper moves through the paper path.

One example of a paper jam message when there is really no paper jam, is when the feed rollers are worn and do not pick up paper from the paper tray.

When you start printing, the printer expects that first sensor to open ( paper passes the sensor ) at a very specific point in time. If the paper did not get picked up from the tray, then the printer will ASSUME that the paper must be jammed somewhere because it did not reach it on time.

Now this will also happen if in fact the paper did get picked up and then jams prior to the sensor.

So... if you get the picture of how this works, understand then too, that if the printer is showing a paper jam message at power on, then one of the flags is open when it should be closed.

If you do not actually have a piece of paper holding this flag in the open position, then the flag is possible broken.

I usually see this kind of damage occur after a true paper jam, where the paper is removed either in the wrong direction ( pulled out back the way it was going instead of the way it should normally travel ), and this breaks the flag, or it was pulled out forcefully again, catching on and damaging the flag.

All of the above pertains to ANY printer, and not just yours. you must take care to fully inspect every inch of the paper path, from the paper tray, to the exit, use a flashlight, and look for the sensors and make sure they are not blocked or broken.

Good luck,

Cory

Paper Jam

hi y'all -

you share a frustrating problem... error message but no apparent error (jam)! it's one that's common to many models of printers and the result of many different causes.

I've seen it when I've printed on cheaper paper, or different (lower) grades with odd surface finishes. the sensors get dirty, or the printer/computer 'thinks' there's paper stuck where none exists. I've opened/closed paper trays 2-3 times and rolled feed rollers around multiple times, then closed printer paper drawers only to have the 3rd time of doing the exact same steps be the time it cleared the error message.

there are often very tiny pieces of paper stuck in weird places in the paper path in printers, too. if you did have a jam before the message started, is every little scrap of the page accounted for? there are also hard to get to places to find paper scraps in larger printers, but I'm going to assume you're all talking about home printers.

here are a few general HP support links you may find helpful for future paper jam messages for this model of printer.

this link is for general info for this model:

here's a link addressing paper jams in general:

and here's one on cleaning your printer:

hope this helps a little bit for future refs. remember that using good paper helps print quality and lessens printing problems. also, when you take a stuck page out of a printer, doing so gently will help ensure little scraps of paper do not tear off paper edges and get stuck in weird spots. it some times helps to gently, manually, roll the feed rollers a full turn around in the printer, too. patience pays! -JW50

You didn't mention whether you had a jam to begin with but I will assume you did.

I would first try unplugging power completely since most machines don't really 'turn off' with the power switch or command sent from your PC so the error code might simply not be clearing.

Printers use a couple of different methods to detect paper jams; measure the time difference between the initial feeding of a sheet and when it reaches a small (and delicate) plastic flag or a photo cell that uses reflected light to detect the transported paper.

The flag could be jammed (or snapped off), the components responsible for detecting the paper could have failed or a photo cell obscured so it can non longer 'see' the paper.

There are only very few screws to remove in lower cost printers and the tab-slot construction goes together much easier than it comes apart; look well before prying.
