Question about Garmin zumo 550 GPS Receiver
Is the gps recognized by the computer? Is it connected directly on a usb port in the computer, if not make sure you do, no hubs or cable extenders, last but not least, is it fully charged and powered on?

I had the exact same problem updating my GPSMAP496, despite several tries. I then found the details below on the Garmin web site in the support area in a topic titled "How do I use the update DVD with my Street Pilot 2620". After following these steps the update ran perfectly the next time through, so it looks as though the problem is with Windows turning off the internal USB root hub part way through to save power. FYI, I was running on Windows 2003 Server as I couldn't contact the Garmin server from my Xp workstation for some reason, but these steps still worked even though it says Xp only.
