This is what you need to do:
Connect the s-video from your computer to your tv input. (think you've already done that)
Go to display properties on your laptop (right-click Desktop and select Properties)
Go to Settings
rightclick the blue rectangle, with a number 2 in it and select attach
If needed you can change the resolution for the TV.
Then click OK
Now your computer is configured correctly.
Make sure you have selected the correct input on your TV.

Please post some feedback,
Thanks for using FixYa

My screen is so dim on my dell vostro 1500. my kids play educational games on it and i'm worried it's so bad for their eyes. the fn key does not work. please help!m thank you.

You can try to go to the power settings and adjust to brightness of your portable system. There should be a battery icon on the lower right portion of your computer, double click it and you should have the power setting. On the bottom portion, there should be a lever where you can set the brightness higher. if this does not work try to adjust contrast in the nVidia Control Panel (assuming you have an nVidia card).

    In Vista, go to
    Display Settings->Advanced Settings
    Click the GeForce tab
Click "Start the NVIDIA Control Panel"
    Click the "Display" category
    Click "Adjust desktop color settings"

I see. Try to restore your system to a day the last time your toggle is working. If that did not work try to reinstall your drivers. specifically for your video card and the utility for your keyboard shortcuts.

I have the same card....and my PC stops responding from mouse movements sometimes, but not anymore. I found that if I always use the HIBERNATE feature of Windows, that my video problems vanish, so I think the problem is related to video RAM, but not sure, because virtual memory caching plays a large role during wake from hibernate. Also ensure that BIOS video settings are not too extreme, go with the normal or default video settings.
