Constant moldy smell (washer and clothes) even when door is left open between washes and after bleach is used - have also cleaned drain and rubber seal.

Exact same problem of moldy or stale odor for a relatively new LG Trom washer. We have cleaned the seal etc., but the odor is still there. Is it something with the drainage system?

We have "smelly" laundry after completed wash and dry. We have done everything possible to get rid of the smell-nothing seems to work....These units are supposed to save water and electricity, but we wind up doing wash twice as often- so much for saving money!

I have the same problem. I hate this washing machine. Is LG going to solve this problem?

It is a known problem that this machine has. There is a some what strange solution for it. First check if your machine is level. This normally happens with machines which are not level. Clean out your filter located at the front. Open the door. get a container and pull the white cap of the black hose and empty the water out. Clean the filter after all water is gone. If this does not fix it:
Clean it out as before. put filter back. get with garden hose or bucket water in your machine through the door opening. Pull the little white cap of and let it run out. Do this again for 2 times.
Now put some bleach in your machine in the soap dispenser and let it run the spin and rinse cycle. It should be gone or at least way better.

I have an LG washer that smells like rotten clothes. My clothes come out smelling real bad. I checked inside and noticed that the rubber seal around the door is holding moldy rotton gunk. It's not self...

Run a cup each of baking soda and vineger thru a hot wash. Might have to do this a couple of time if smell really bad.

Take out the unit where the liquid soap, softner, etc goes and clean by hand.

Soak a cloth in vinegar and clean the inside of the rubber around the tub.

And finally DO NOT LEAVE THE DOOR CLOSED IF NOT IN USE.

you need to clean the draw and the inside of the draw and clean the rubber door seal all way round when you done that use a washer clean detergent whitch should be at a super market. and run it at 90 or 95 temp cottons wash it should stop the smell beacause dirt is buliding up so a good clean should stop it.hope this helps.

LG TROMM WM2496HSM MILDEW & MUST SMELL

I have had the same problem with mine. I have started taking the rubber seal off at least once a month to clean it with bleach and water. I would not recommend doing this unless you are handy with tools. You might try cleaning the seal with bleach and water while it remains on the machine. Careful to pull the inner sealing lip down to get to the "Slime" behind it. Good Luck

LG washing machine has AWFUL mildew smell

I have an LG washer that had the same problem. Go to the site www.nufreshnow.com and read all about why this is happening, how to fix it and how to keep it from comming back. A few different ways of cleaning the machine are explained.

The site sells a product that you may or may not need but the explanations are really good.

If you're not used to seeing water come down the front of the inner glass portion, then your return tube, and/or gasket drainage is most likely clogged. I have the LG WM2277HW front loader and this is what worked for me:

1. Locate water recirculating outlet at the top inside of the gray rubber door gasket- it will have a white plastic piece that directs the water flow inward.

2. Check for blockage at that outlet. Mine had one about 2 inches long. Pull it out with your fingers or tweezers.

3. Check the 3 small rectangular drain holes at the bottom of the gasket; make sure they're not plugged up as well. This is where the smelly water pools from bacterial growth

4. Run through a sanitizing cycle- no detergent, just bleach and watch for more blockage that might come out the tube from the top...it collects on the glass before falling all the way in. Don't wash any clothes before this step, or the gunk will end up in your load.

Hope that helps...pictures posted.

LG washing machine has AWFUL mildew smell

Same here. We bought ours January 2005. Love the machines and take great care of them, too. Then the smell in the washer which seemed to affect certain clothes, like thick sweat pants and t-shirts (they smelled really "sour"). After doing some searches I found on this site where someone had recommended using a product called Affresh. I figured I might as well try it since my other attempts failed. This really worked for me. I bought it at Home Depot for $7 for a pkg of 3. I used 3 tablets per their directions, as this was my first time using it (afterwards they recommend using only 1 tablet per month). I was totally amazed as the smell was gone. I hope it works for you, too!

Musty mildew smell

It is the same with all the front load machines out there. I do a bleach load once a week and always leave the door unlatched. All washers always have some water left in them. You can also wipe the gasket down with a weak bleach and water mix on a rag it will help also.

Washer smells bad

There is a door on the bottom og this machine, I opened the door to find a little spot, I placed a bowel under the spout and opened it, drained all of the liquid out and this problem stopped! I also ran the machine on hot water with bleach after I emptied this resevoir. How often you do laundry will determine how often you must empty it. For me, once every 6-8 months does the trick!

Musty odor

Washer tub is probably very dirty from excess soap suds.  These washers have no way of cleaning rinsing themselves off so they will have to be disassembled and cleaned out to remove the odor.  That's about a 2 to 3 hour job.  Be sure to replace the rubber seal and the shaft seal to prevent leaks.
