When I start the dryer, I immediately hear a banging noise and it continues throughout the cycle. The sound seems to be coming from the back in the top left corner. It works fine but is very noisy

I have the same problem. At first, I though there was something hitting inside the dryer, like a snap or button, or mayber there was a coin in the dryer. But the dryer makes the same noise with nothing in it. It does sound like it's coming from the back of the dryer. Would love to know what it's all about.

Interestingly enough, about a week after I posted my message about the
banging noise, it suddenly stopped. I had scheduled an appointment with
a repairman for later in the week, so I'm glad it stopped before he
made the house call. I haven't heard a noise since.

You may have had a foreign object slip under a loose drum baffle. Manually rotate the drum to locate wwhich baffle it is in.

I had a year old Maytag Neptune dryer that began making banging noises like there were rocks in it. When I looked, I noticed a crack in the seam of the drum. It had cracked, and when the drum spun around, it was spinning unevenly, causing the banging noises. Luckily my husband bought the extended warranty, and Maytag wound up replacing the entire drum. Now it works beautifully. You may want to check for any cracks. The drum is one piece of metal, welded together at the ends.

When drying clothes, there is a loud banging noise, almost like if the clasp to overalls is hitting the inside of the dryer. Right now I am drying towels, so there is nothing metal or hard that could be...

Check all exposed screws, and make sure they are tight. Loose cabinet screws may cause a banging sound. Make sure nothing is loose inside the drum. Remove the lint trap and look below the lint trap holder for any loose items that may have slipped through the cracks.
Check to see if the drum is supported on wheels or rollers. Sometimes these can wear and require replacement.

Good luck and have a nice day

Banging noise when the drum is spinning

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
You can get a parts manual from this website:

If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:
Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Dryer makes banging noise

basscat, you first remove the door by removing the screws from the hinges. The door will lift up a litte and pull off. Next remove the spacers on the other side. Now the front panel will pull out from the top. There will be two 1/4 inch screws with latches on each side of the frame, remove these and the top will lift up. Now by holding the door switch and starting the dryer, you will be able to see what is banging. Once you determine that, you can remove the bulk-head, should be 4 screws, be sure to unplug the door switch. Unfasten the belt, remember the configuration and remove the drum. You are now able to get at the insides. back.
