I have an old Samsung MP3 player that i stopped using because it suddenly said that the device could not be recognised when i plugged it into my computer. i recently got a new laptop so tried to plug it in but again it says that the device cannot be recognised

Try another USB port, apart from the one you used before, but before doing that, try this nice trick, put on either your Windows Media Player first, or If you have An Apple RealPlayer Application, put it on,...those two applications helps in the detection of Portable devices. Goodluck
First disconnect PC from power cable for 10 minutes (unplug).Disconnect player from USB. reinstall player software. Then connect back player, it should work.
I have just found exactly the same problem on my Z5, which is 6 months old. Was fine yesterday, but not today.Will phone Samsung tomorrow & report any info
