hp pavilion dv series notebook touchpad is not working

  • swetepi Jun 08, 2008

My touch pad does not work at all. when i start to boot up my laptop the indicator light is blue.As soon as it is started the light turns orange. The touch pad is totally in op. The on/off button does nothing. I have no action from the scroll line, nor left or right buttons. Last week, the indicator light was on flickering back and forth blue to orange, but as I also have a very dim screen, concomitantly, I did not know the touch pad was in op. There ws no insult to my computer, so I am an unhappy owner. I had it fixed for something else only 5 months ago.

This is usually a problem with the LCD lid switch. It commonly gets stuck or dirty on this model. If you remove the power button panel, you can unplug it. Google how to fix dv2000 lid switch and you will find your answer

Whenever I type the words come out jumbled with parts of a word mixed in with another word. A nightmare to write a letter.Correcting the missformed letter is not impossible but so time consuming

Is this on a notebook or net book as in my personal experience working for Acer this was caused by position of the hands whilst typing causing the palms to drag across the touchpad which then moved the cursor elsewhere on the line or even the screen, nearly all makes & models have a built in key or button to enable or disable the touchpad maybe it is something you could try to see if it resolves your issue.

How do i scroll down using a touchpad? im used to the scroll wheel on my old mouse

it depends what brand product you are using. for most touchpads you just drag two fingers next to eachother on the touchpad and it will scroll up and down. for some others you just drag one finger along the edge of the touchpad

Laptop touchpad doesnot clicking

If the click on the pad works but not the button ..it may be either the driver to blame or the function disabled in the control panel or just the button being dead..The fact that allows you to drag means that it one of teh click works ..cause you can not select for dragging without the click function ..
If the button is dead and even after reinstalling the driver will not work ..see if the double click on the area where you drag works ..usually all pads work for click if you peck on it ..
If it is the other way and the button works but not in the tab area..it is the driver but if it works there but not in the button it may be something damaged physically ..
If it does not take double click in the tab area..check the settings in the control panel ..mouse pad..The double click may be disabled..

How do you highlight with a touchpad

With most touchpads you hold down the left mouse button to select then move the cursor with the other hand by pressing a finger on the touchpad and dragging it. Be sure your touch pad is not disabled - usually a button near it with an indicator LED.

Laptop Touchpad - cursor random dragging problem

On my acer all I have to do is press function F7, Function is the button with 'Fn' on it. I am not sure if that works for HP, but its worth a try. Also, is there a switch near the touchpad? Sometimes there is one that switches the touch pad on and off. You can also try other Fn(function) F1 or Fn F2 etc. and see if one of the other "f" buttons work.  I hope this helps, let me know how you made out. Good Luck!

"sticky" mouse on compaq laptop

Unless your left mouse button has been severely damaged, it is unlikely that a loose button is the cause of your problem. More likely, it is your touchpad. Chances are your touchpad is set to click when tapped. Oversensitive touchpads can click randomly when you're dragging your finger across the touchpad.

To test this, position your cursor over a link (or other button) but don't press the left mouse button. Instead, lightly tap the touchpad itself. If the link or button is clicked, go to your Control Panel and adjust the Mouse options so your touchpad no longer clicks when tapped. It's usually a setting titled "tap to click" or something along those lines.

Javabytes
