Hello mbrown1057

HERE is eMachines listing of downloads, etc. for your T-2742 desktop PC. There's contact information at that link as well. There's also a CHAT button where you can, hopefully, get support for your computer.

HERE is the User guide for your eMachine. See chapter 4 for instructions on removing the cover of your e-Machine. (beginning on page 4-1)

After opening the User Guide, click on the [+] sign to the left of "Installing and Removing Drives".

Then, click on "Removing the Cover". This will take you to page 4-1 of the manual.

Be sure to let us know if this works for you.

    Hello MBrown1057,

How did it go? Did the information and links I provided you w/ enable you to get the side cover off of your e-Machine?

I DO hope that is the case. :) If it isn't, please, post back here and we'll continue to assist you.

If it is the case, would you kindly take just a moment to close the problem by assigning a FIXYA rating for my "solution"? I would be very grateful for your generosity and show of appreciation.

Thank you once again for using FixYa! Have a beautiful day.
    BJ @:)

Hi dallasblue08,

Here's a diagram of what your looking for:

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):

Emachine t2742 I also have a wiring problem!

gtater,
It's ironic that you ask me this question today-- i am just now carrying in another eMachine computer to fix. Anyway, unfortunately I do not have one that is the same model as yours (T2742). However, I did some quick research and found that yours has the same exact motherboard as the T2898 which I made the diagram for!

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):
T2742 T2796 T2798 T2824 T2885 D2823 T2862 T2896 T2898 T2958

For further reference, I would like to share this diagram for the eMachines T6544 in case someone else may need this model. This is the computer I just carried in... might as well share.

By the way, the power switch doesn't need to be oriented any particular way (positive and negative), which is why the switches are not labeled as + or -. Switches can be wired either way and they will work the same.

Hope this helps.

Emachine won't come on

try to unplug all perirphals, keyboard mouse, pda, scanner, etc. reboot. If still working... unplug pc power open case... try and remove a ram memory stick if you have more then one. Try switching out both and verify if both work or do not work. If you get same result from both try removing any cards as well... sound, graphics card, etc. and then reboot and see what happens. If it boots then try restart with one card at time to see which one is causing the issue.

T2742 OEM Bios Update

I researched and could not find it. I suggest that you have a Chat session with the eMachine support @:

http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html

Or you can download BiosAgent and it will tell you what you need, but to download it, you would have to purchase it for a fee of $29.00. I download BioAgent and it told me what Bios and hardware updates I needed.

http://biosagentplus.com/?r=302&PHPSESSID=bt75epk9dugl4vj1fj1d9om4c5

copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
