If you open the back cover (depress the release button on the top right) If you lift it up look for two black anchors that grab the base when you close the lid. I have one that has a broken tab on the left side, which happens to be the same side as the cover closed switch. If the top is not closed all the way the rollers do not line up and the cover switch is not depressed to let normal operation. Also, if the switch arm is busted (case colored plastic push pin protruding from the cover) it will not make contact with the switch when closed. Try closing the cover and push down on left side of the fax. Does the error go away? If not, the actuator arm or the switch are bad.

Does anyone know where to find parts for a Muratec F-65 fax?
I had the same problem with the error message. I discovered that a piece of paper was stuck, and I had to open the back cover and depress the blue release button to partially free up the paper so I could pull it out. Once I cleared the paper and closed the back cover, the printer worked perfectly. Good luck! Cheryl
