Vista Home does not recognize LG DVD drivers

Loaded Windows Vista Home basic on my PC. All worked well while loading my programs. After a while the DVDs stopped working and Vista Home does not recognize the devices. On Device Manager it shows the drivers but it does not work.

My e-mail address is georg.martens@gmail.com

Thank you.

Georg

I had the same problem. I upgraded to Windows Vista recently. At first everything was running smoothly. After installing all my software, at some point windows vista did no recognize my cd/dvd driver. I searched the web to see if anybody was having the same problem and I found this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 . I followed the instructions and I was able to recover the cd/dvd driver. But the problem continue at different intervals. I did some more research on the web only to find out that other people that had the same problem found out that the culprit was itunes. I had the latest version of itunes 7.6 installed on my laptop. I removed itunes from my machine and the problem went away.

I have a LG laptop with an external USB powered DVD/CD combo drive. It worked fine for a long time, then all of sudden stopped working with the Vista unable to recognize the Combo drive. As suggested by one of the users, I uninstalled iTunes 7.6 and it didn't work.

I even went to the LG website to dowload the firmware updating software, but the problem is that it needs work in WindowsXP... which does not help!!

So my drive is still NOT working.
Vista sucks, unstable piece of ****... should have stuck to WinXP Pro.

Is there any reason as to why you do not want to replace the eternal DVD ROM drive? This would solve your issue all you do is load the recovery disks and finish the job. They are not that expensive and really easy to replace them. Just a thought? John

I have thinkpad T61 it was loaded with vista. It

what kind of media are you loading? is this a DVD or a program disc? If this is a DVD disc, try loading a music CD or other type of disc to see if it is recognized. If so, its possible your PC DVD is unable to recognize that specifc type of DVD. Try other DVD's which you know worked before using Vista. Even though your machine says the device is working properly, check the Lenovo website for updated drivers for the DVD and the board chipset. Let me know if updating the drivers does not work. Meanwhile, I'll see if I can find out any more information from Lenovo.

I installed windows 7 and now my function keys don't work

You need to install the drivers, windows does not recognize these additional buttons until the proper drivers are loaded. Depending on manufacturer windows 7 drivers may or may not be available. Microsoft did something smart with windows 7 by allowing you to use windows vista drivers in windows 7. So if there are no win 7 drivers just download and install the vista drivers. Good luck!

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or not recognized by Windows or other programs, so you cannot play or access a CD or DVD. This issue might have occurred after you installed, uninstalled, or updated a program or Windows Vista.

This issue may have occurred after one of the following situations:

  • You install or uninstall CD or DVD recording programs.
  • You uninstall Microsoft Digital Image.
You may see one of the following error messages:
  • One of the following error messages appears when you view the CD drive or the DVD drive in Device Manager.

Error message 1 The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31). Error message 2 A driver for this device was not required, and has been disabled (Code 32 or Code 31). Error message 3 Your registry might be corrupted. (Code 19)
  • An "error code 39" error message.
  • A message that resembles the following appears in the notification area: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

You will have to use the New Dell 922 VISTA drivers and not the XP drivers in order for it to work with your Vista Loaded PC. The new drivers for the 922 under Vista are available for download at Dells website. Check out this link http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/emea/shared/support/dsn/en/document?c=ed&docid=314972&l=en&s=bsd Hope this helps.
