Hey prezzie

try bending the cam towards the fornt end of the lens with its protector on. then strongly tap the lens cover going downward. what we want to do is to release the jam by doing this. but dont overdo it! you might damage other internal parts by banging it too much.

before you think of buying a new one, you must first determine if the spring lens can be fixed or not. buying a new cam would be great but you might still have the chance to fix that.

Take battery off and put back in after a couple of minutes.

Try also helping the lens our gently with your fingernails whaen you restart the camera. Another way to unlock the lens is tapping gently with the palm of your hand at the back of the camera, while you start it up.
If the above easy fixes do not work there will be the need to open the metal cover holding the lens together and having the lens unlocked, at this point you should also consider contacting a repair service.

Yes, the others way are the above, you can also try blowing the lens shutter with air, in case dust is keeping it stuck.
If all the above does not work you need to remove shutter holder and disassemble part of the shutter mechanism.

I agree, it is not a difficult fix, get a quotation from a repair shop in your area, it can be less expensive than expected.

Jvc video camera switch on and the screen tells you the lens cover is on

If your camcorder is still under warranty, send it before it's to late. There is some kind of wide spread problem with the CCD Assembly on this line of JVC products. In particular with the GR-DxxU line.

From what I have read in the internet, the CCD Assembly is a Sony part and can be purchased for about $50. If you are handy with electronics, you could give it a go. This repair if successful, will probably not last for to long either.

I have the same problem with this camera and it's a shame that JVC is not doing anything about it. I read somewhere that there is a pending class action law suit against JVC on this line of products.

Sony has also released a statement with one of their camcorders, that they will fix the problem at no charge. Can't remember the link but it's on this site.

Hope this helps,
A. L.

How can I get a manual for my JVC camcorder,model#GR-DA30U. Also how do I get a USB for same camcorder?

JVC has manuals for the GR-DA30UC and GR-DA30US models at
http://books.jvc.com/booklist.asp?Model=GR-DA30U

Neither one of them has a USB port, so there are no USB cables for the camcorder

Looking through the problems posted for all jvc camcorders it became obvious that mine was CCD problem, encountered by many others. Also jvc are fixing this for free, so if you have this problem go to a jvc sevice centre and you should have no problems. Suffice to say this site was invaluable in diagnosing my problem, and you have been recommended to my friends. Thankyou, I'll be back.
