Sounds to me that either your hard drive is bad, your graphics card is bad, or your power supply is bad. Kinda a tough decision to try and narrow it down to one item when you ask yourself which component to replace. The power supply is going to be the cheaper of the three to replace and the video card and hard drive will cost about the same. If I can be of any further help, please let me know.

HP computer after an uninstall of MS office 2003 black screen on startup monitor is working fine can't even restore to specific point in time

When turning on or booting up you computer, taping F8 immediately and select safe mode using scroll up and down arrow keys and press enter to select safe mode. If there is a small window prompt asking confirmation just click yes or OK. When you already in windows desktop, click start, programs, accessories, system tools and system restore. Then try to restore your system after the day you uninstalled your MS Office 2003.

Please Rate me it this solution works for you.

Hi, MY grandson was left alone with my PC when i returned the colour and contrast on the monitor was very dull also the menu language changed to japanese. I have tried to set it manually but nothing...

I think you know the first thing you did wrong!
Try booting into safe mode using the F8 key on startup and then do a system restore back to before your grandson visited. You could also choose "boot to last known good configuration"
Then password protect the computer and don't let him know what it is!

I updated my sound driver and now my windows 7 wont start after a rebbot but starts after shutting down

Ok perform a system restore, press F8 at bootup and choose safe mode desktop, when you are asked if you want the safe mode desktop or system restore, choose restore, and when ask if you want restore or desktop choose restore, restore to a time BEFORE the driver up date and follow instructions and reboot, you should be back where you were.Or start up in safe mode desktop, at desktop, go device manager and "Roll back" the driver. reboot, should be OK.

I need to reset the display settings but i cant see what they say

It's a simple fix. Reboot your computer and press the F8 key repeatedly until you come to a boot menu. Select Safe Mode. This will take you into Windows at a default of 640x480 resolution. Adjust the settings according to the monitor and lower them to what you had them before you did the changes.

Another method is when you are at the boot menu selection, you can select safe mode with command prompt.

Type c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe for windows xp to use the system restore and rollback windows to when it was working properly.

For windows vista type:
c:\windows\system32\rstrui.exe

Windows XP powers down the monitor after a few mins running.

ok theres a simple solution u need to decide to yourself when was it working last then click start\all programs\accessories\system tools\ststem restore and restore your computer to a time when it was working...backup your recent files because u will lose them and if it still doesnt work you may want to do full system restore. what it does is brings your computer back to the state it was in when you bought it but you lose evrything how you do that is press f8 while booting before your OS loads

I'm having an IBM notebook in the house, when u turn on power nothing comes on the screen...? what should i do

Does your sound work? If so there is a button on your keypad that allows you to toggle your screen source back and fourth between Projector/monitor and laptop. The icon looks like a monitor and usually you will have to hit your "FN" (Function) key along with pressing the monitor key. On most laptops it is F8 - so you will need to press and hold the FN key and press the F8 (or key with the picture of the monitor) and toggle through until you get your screen back.

Good Luck and feel free to rate me..

Happy Holidays..

System will not boot up - fans are working

If the pc posts

(power on self test) and you see stuff on the screen, no matter how short , do the following: (this checks for a software problem)
  • when booting up press F8 and when you get to the menu, boot up into safe mode,
  • then restore the pc back to a date before you had the problem, and/or remove any program you installed prior to you having the problem,
if that don't work Try
  • a bootable anti virus disc use it to check for any viruses , if not
  • try a recovery disc, or operating system disc ,
  • both disc's will try to access the hard drive. if they do not work,
  • (nothing has changed) nothing comes on the screen.

laptop does not post:
(then it is a hardware problem)

  • Remove any hardware you may have installed prior to you having the problem.
  • remove the ram and clean the gold edges both sides, with rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser,
  • and re-insert them, (not an ink eraser as it will do damage)
  • swap them around if you have more than one, try one at a time.
  • if you only have one, borrow one from a friend or try the ram in your friends laptop ,if that's possible,
  • or take the ram to your local pc shop and ask them to check it for you (they may do that for you)
  • if you can establish that the ram is ok, and recovery /system disc's do not work, then it is most likely, that the motherboard has failed .
  • Generally a dead hard drive would not stop the laptop from posting.
good luck with that and let me know how you get on.
