Fujitsu M4097D error about Front side optical alarm

After switch on, the following error message shows: "Front side optical alarm" even though the green lamp lights up . The message displays even when the lamp is disconnected. I suspect the detector itself is faulty. Can you help please ? Thank you in advance.

Clean all mirrors in the front side camera with a very smooth lint free cloth.
In case the camera was disassembled check the direction of the mirror coatings. All must be aligned to the camera inside, resp. the center. I hope nowbody unscrewed the CCD PCA.
Check the FCC cable connectors and the connection pins between the main PCA and the small junction board.

From the 4097d service manual:

1. Does the lamp turn on when the multi test feed is executed?
2. If optical alarm (F) appeared, clean the document board assembly and carrier unit.
If optical alarm (B) appeared, clean the ADF unit(auto document feeder), optical unit, and lamp.
3. Check the connector for the Optical unit cable or carrier cable.
4. Replace the front lamp for (F) error, replace back lamp for (B).

Most of these solutions will require a service call. Contrary to the scanner hotline solution, the most expensive solution may not be the correct one.

Remember, optical alarms are generally saying, " My camera can get enough light." Sometimes it is simply so blasted dirty on the mirrors and glass that the light can't get through. Some scanners use a white background plate to white balance the camera. If the white is very dirty, then the camera really can't tell if the lamp is out, the glass is dirty, or the camera itself is bad. It just keeps giving the optical error until the camera self check is satisfied.

Try the simple solutions first. The optical assembly will be pretty expensive, and you may decide to upgrade to a newer scanner . Unless you get real luckey with a service guy, with labor and parts, don't expect to come out cheaper than 3k if the optical assem. is bad.

HI,
I work on the fujitsu scanner hotline. This message means that the optical unit needs to be replaced, there will be very little you can do to fix this problem.

Backside Optical alarm (G) when using Duplex option

Hi Rasha,

ADF backside scanning optical alarm (upper optical unit ADF) is E3 alarm. When there is an irregularity in the amount of light (ADF back), "E" and "3" will be displayed alternately on the function number display panel of the scanner.

Please check the followings:

1.Does the same symptom occur after turning OFF and ON the scanner?
2. Is the lower glass (white sheet guide) of the reading section dirty? Open the ADF, and clean the sheet guide (white part) and the glass.
3. Is the upper Optical unit ADF dirty? Are the cables damaged? Are the connectors connected properly?
4.E3: Is the upper lamp ON? Are the cables damaged? Are the connectors connected properly? Disconnect the SCSI cable and turn the scanner ON. Open the ADF and press ADF cover open sensor as shown below to see if the ADF lamps light which has to be replaced.

I would recommend to contact an authorized FUJITSU scanner service provider or the dealer where you purchased the scanner.

Hope the above information is helpful.

Thanks & regards,

Error 3

Hi Adil,

This E3 error message means ADF backside scanning optical alarm (upper optical unit ADF) which indicates ADF (back) lamp intensity check. Please follow the steps provided below:

1. Is the lower glass (white sheet guide)of the reading section dirty?

Open the ADF, and clean the sheet guide (white part) and the glass.

# When operating the scanner, the ADF’s inside glass becomes very hot. Take serious caution as the heat can cause burns. Before you clean the inside of the scanner, turn off its power and unplug the AC adapter from the outlet and wait (at least three minutes) until it gets cold.Be careful not to pinch your fingers when the ADF cover is being closed.
Note: Cleaning should be done approximately every 10,000 sheets scanned, though it may vary depending on types of
documents scanned. More frequent cleaning is necessary when the following types of documents are scanned:
- Smooth surface document such as coated paper
- Documents printed on almost entire surface
- Documents processed with chemical materials such as carbonless paper
- Paper with a high calcium content
- Pages with pencil lead
- Document where toner is not fused sufficiently.

If the above does not help, then the issue is caused by any of the followings for which you may have to contact the Fujitsu Expert/Engineer.

1. Upper Optical unit ADF may be dirty. (Remove any dirt inside of the mirrors and lens of the Optical unit ADF with blow brush. Do not use air sprays which may build up condensation on the mirrors.)
2. Upper lamp may not be functioning properly.
3. The connecting cables might be damaged.
4. The connectors are not connected properly.

Hope the above information is helpful. Please revert you have any doubt.

Has Fujitsu fi-4340c scanner. Worked for a while then it showed Front Side Optical Alarm. I tried to clean sheet path, and replaced roller and pickup pad. Still the same error. Does anyone has the...

Hi,
Explanation:
Front Side Optical Alarm only generated when start command is received or when white level reference is checked (every 50 scans). CCD output must be above predetermined slice level when reading the white reference. Slice level is set in F/W and compared to the read range values. The read range is approximately pixel 120 to 4800. If CCD output does not reach slice level the AGC tries to adjust the output of the amplifier to exceed the slice level. If any portion of the read range is lower than slice then Optical Alarm is generated. Also, it can be generated by dirty optics or reference, bad lamp or CCD.

Resolution:

If "Front Side Optical Alarm" appeared, clean the glass (small and large one) of the flatbed and carrier unit.
If the issue persists, then check if CCD harness or CR cable is disconnected? Connect the connector.
If the issue persists, then replace Front lamp.
If the issue is not resolved, then replace the Control PCA or Carrier unit or Optical unit.

Pls acknowledge if the issue is resolved.

Fujitsu fi 4750c scanner error

Try a flatbed scan scan with the cover open.  If you see the lamp come on, it's likely a cable or CCD problem, though it can be caused by a really dirty reference strip or mirrors. I've never seen one that dirty but it's mentioned in the service manual. I have seen lost documents in the ADF unit cause backside optical alarms, but the front unit is protected from this by glass. If the lamp doesn't light, it can be a defective lamp or cable. In all these cases, you'll need a tech onsite. Disassembly of this model is difficult & reassembly is even worse. I wouldn't recommend it even if you're mechanically inclined.

The Rom board is the big circuit board that can be removed from the rear of the scanner. I think there are about three screws that secure the plate that surrounds the output jacks. With the screws out, the whole rom board comes out like a sliding tray. The fuses are round and brown in color. BUT warning! Don't mix them up because they are of different values. If you try swapping them around, you will put the wrong value in another slot and it will blow! If your lamps are lit, then the fuses are ok, but try pulling the circuit board tray out and reseating the tray.

If the lamps are lit, then the fuse and lamp inverter is ok. If you swapped the cameras, and the problem still says its the front lamp, make sure that the lamp is turned around to its proper position. The lamps are masked with a clear opening. If that opening is not turned to shine the light at the right position, you could be getting the alarm because of the loss of light.

If the problem shifted to the rear lamp alarm when you switched the cameras, then the camera mirrors are real dirty inside or its just a bad camera.

Sounds then like a loose camera cable , dirty glass, or white background plate.
