Why don't you try to restore it to a previous state....coz if you keep on getting the same message all-over again your unit might have been infected by a virus.....coz not all anti-virus can actually guard your PC..some still manage to go through....try restoring it to an earlier state.......

Blank screen

Check keyboard for 'F' keys which relate to screen Functions. Look for brightness UP or DOWN keys and if nothing else works hold down POWER button until it shuts down. Then push button and allow it to start up again. It will run through self-diagnostic testing and will ask if you want to run computer in Safe or Other Modes-pick Normal Mode.
Very often this will fix the problem.

Cannot upgrade ram over 384 mb

nothing much you can do about that, the limitation is down to the processor/motherboard configuration. I have an old packard bell with the same 'problem'.
just max out the ram and run something like ubuntu linux on it - better and faster than windows (in my opinion) and it's free.
If you really want to run windows then nothing newer than win 2000/ME will run in that memory.

Magnet near laptop issue

Your laptop is ancient, it is no way powerfull enough to run vista.
If the magnet was powerful it may have damaged the hard drive and other components.
I would not run anything later than windows 2000 on a 266mhz CPU.
You could try XP at a push.
Your drivers are available here.

Packard bell tower pentium 2= CANT REINSTALL WINDOWSXP PRO

Hi Rob, unfortunatly there is no legal way to load Windows XP without your own disk. Microsoft only allow this to be loaded on one computer per disk and you can not use a friends disk as each computer has its own electronic signature. this is recorded when XP is activated and the disk key is recorded with that signature so it can not be used on more than the one computer.
